Watch videos on the Miniplayer

With the Miniplayer, you can continue to watch videos, including playlists and livestreams, while you browse YouTube.

Start the Miniplayer

If you’re using the YouTube app, the Miniplayer will automatically pop up at the bottom of the screen if you tap the back button or swipe down while watching a video.

Note: The Miniplayer is not available for Shorts or videos marked as made for kids.

Control the Miniplayer

The video will continue to play in the Miniplayer as you navigate around YouTube. If you tap another video’s thumbnail on Home with the Miniplayer up, you’ll go to that video.

Play or pause: Tap Pause on the top-left side of the Miniplayer to pause the video. Tap Play to resume.

Exit: Dismiss the Miniplayer by tapping  at the top-right side of the player. You can also go back to the video watch page by tapping the video in the Miniplayer.

Move and resize the Miniplayer

Move: Touch, hold, and drag the Miniplayer to move it around your screen.

Resize: Double-tap the Miniplayer to switch between its maximum and minimum size. You can also pinch out to enlarge the Miniplayer, or pinch in to reduce its size.

Hide: Hide the video by dragging the Miniplayer and dropping it toward the edge of your screen. You can also hide the Miniplayer by quickly swiping the player toward the edge of your screen. Bring it back by tapping or dragging on the arrow that appears on the screen’s edge.

Background Play: For non-Premium users, playback will pause immediately for all content, including ads, when the miniplayer is hidden, and will resume once it is no longer hidden. Background play is a YouTube Premium feature.
