Other updates

May 2021

  • Reserve Bank of India eMandate notification: Due to the Reserve Bank of India eMandate notification, viewers in India will temporarily only be able to purchase non-recurring access to channel memberships, YouTube Premium, and YouTube Music Premium. New, non-recurring members will lose access after 1 month, and will need to sign up again if they wish to continue being a channel member. Your current members will continue to have recurring payments as per normal unless they cancel their membership.
  • Members milestone message experiment: For channels in the experiment, channel members can send a special highlighted message in live chat to recognize and celebrate how long they’ve been a member. This feature is available to members who are in, at least, their 2nd consecutive month as a member. Messages can only be sent during live streams, and are visible to all viewers.

March 2021

  • Channel memberships prepaid experiment: Starting March 22, 2021, some viewers can buy a 6-month channel membership in one non-recurring payment. This option will be available to most viewers in the US, India, France, Germany, and Spain. Viewers may be offered a discount on a 6-month membership. YouTube will cover the cost of the discount for this experiment, so Creators will earn the same amount from discounted memberships.
