Take a break reminder

The take a break reminder lets you set a reminder to take a break while watching videos. The reminder will pause your video until you dismiss it or resume playing the video. You have the option to customize the frequency of the reminder. This feature is available on versions 13.17+ of the YouTube app on mobile phones.

The take a break reminder is “off” by default.

To toggle and customize your take a break reminder:

  1. Tap your Account icon .
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap General.
  4. Tap Remind me to take a break.
  5. Select your Reminder frequency.

Once the reminder shows up, you can tap Dismiss to dismiss the reminder and resume watching the video, or tap Settings to go directly to the Settings page, where you can turn off the reminder or edit the reminder frequency.

Note: The timer only runs while you’re watching videos online on your phone. Pausing or closing a video will also pause the timer. If you close the YouTube app, log out, switch accounts, switch devices, or pause a video for more than 30 minutes, the timer will reset. When watching Offline videos or Casting from your phone, the timer does not run.
