Our teams are currently experiencing high support volumes. Please expect longer than usual waiting times for responses to questions from email, chat and @TeamYouTube on Twitter.

Use the inline player

The inline player lets you watch videos while you browse YouTube.

Note: If you watch a video for a certain amount of time while browsing, it may enter into your watch history. Learn more about how to manage your watch history.

The inline player lets you fast-forward, rewind and watch videos while you browse the Home tab  and search results page. As you scroll through your Home feed and search results, videos will begin to play on mute with captions auto-enabled. If you'd like, you can also turn on sound with the inline player.

The inline player may be on by default when you're using either Wi-Fi or mobile data. If you'd like to customise your inline player experience, use the directions below:

To turn the inline player on or off:

  1. Select your profile picture .
  2. Tap Settings Settings and then General.
  3. Tap Playback in feeds.
  4. Select your preferred option:
    • Always on – Use on Wi-Fi and mobile data
    • Wi-Fi only – Use only when connected to Wi-Fi
    • Off – Don't use at all

Note: The inline player feature is in beta and may not be available to everyone. While availability is subject to change, only Android mobile devices can use the inline player right now. This feature is not compatible with older operating systems or older versions of the YouTube app.
