If you’d like to watch YouTube in Ambient mode, you have to turn on Dark theme first for your device.

YouTube Android app

For Android 10 (or newer) users:​

1. Open the YouTube app .
2. Select your profile picture .
3. Tap Settings .
4. Tap General.
5. Tap Appearance.
6. Select Use device theme to use your device's dark theme setting.
   OR
   Turn on Light or Dark theme within the YouTube app.

For other Android users:

1. Open the YouTube app .
2. Select your profile picture .
3. Tap Settings .
4. Tap General.
5. Turn on Light or Dark theme in the YouTube app.

YouTube Studio app for Android

1. Open the YouTube Studio app .
2. Tap your profile picture .
3. Tap Settings .
4. Under Device, toggle Dark Theme on.
