Turn comments on or off

Starting February 20, 2019, we began temporarily disabling comments on certain videos. This was part of a series of actions to protect minors. In addition to our normal protections, we have taken an aggressive approach and temporarily disabled comments on tens of millions of videos that may include minors.

We don’t take this action lightly. We know comments are a key way creators connect with their community, but this was an important step for child safety on YouTube. While the creators of these channels and their videos may have done nothing wrong, we’re taking an aggressive approach on content that may endanger minors. Check back for updates. If you aren't able to follow these instructions, you are likely using the old version of YouTube. If you're using a newer browser, update to the current version of YouTube.

Manage video settings

You can decide if you want to allow viewers to comment on specific videos.

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer.
  2. Go to Creator Studio > Video Manager.
  3. Select the box next to any of the videos you want to manage.
  4. At the top of the screen, click the Actions menu.
  5. Select More actions > Comments
  6. Select or unselect Do not allow comments.

Comments are not available on private videos. If you want to allow comments on a video that's not publicly available, post an unlisted video instead.
