Watch videos offline on mobile in selected countries

In selected locations, certain videos on the YouTube mobile app are available to 'Save offline' for playback during periods of low or no connectivity. 

The features described in this article are available in the locations listed below. If YouTube Red is available in your location, you can watch videos offline on your mobile device by becoming a YouTube Red member. If you are a YouTube Red member, learn how to manage your 'Save offline' settings

Add videos to Offline

If you are located in one of the countries listed above, you can add certain videos from the YouTube mobile app to watch offline for up to 48 hours. 

To add videos to Offline, tap the Save icon  below the video, or select Save offline from a video's Menu . An Available Offline icon  will appear below the video once it has been saved offline.

If your device loses connectivity as you're adding a video or playlist to Offline, your progress will resume automatically when you reconnect to a mobile or Wi-Fi network.

View and remove videos saved to Offline

You can view and delete all of the videos you've downloaded with the following steps:

  1. Tap Menu  > Settings.
  2. In Settings, tap Downloads > Clear Downloads.
  3. Tap OK in the dialog box below 'Delete all videos and playlists?'

Update Save offline settings

By default, videos are saved on iOS devices through Wi-Fi only, while other devices save over both Wi-Fi and mobile data. To allow videos or playlists to be saved offline over mobile networks, go to Menu  > Settings > Offline and turn the radio button next to Add over Wi-Fi only off.

Set the default quality of your offline videos by going to Settings > Offline > Quality. Higher-quality videos may consume more data, take longer to appear in the Offline section and take up more space on your device.

To view how much space you have left on your device for offline content, go to Menu  > Settings > Offline in the app. If you have less than 5% of storage space remaining on your device, you won't be able to add any additional videos to Offline. To free up additional space, try removing existing offline videos or other content stored on your device.

Offline availability

Some videos are unavailable for offline playback. If a video is unavailable for offline playback, the Save button will be disabled.

Saved videos can be played offline for up to 48 hours. After that, you'll need to reconnect your device to a mobile or Wi-Fi network every 48 hours to allow the app to check for changes to the video or its availability. If a video is no longer available for offline playback, it will be removed from your device during the next sync.

You must be signed in to save videos to Offline. Videos or playlists that are saved to Offline can be played while signed in with the same account. Some features, like commenting and liking, are only available when your device is connected to a mobile or Wi-Fi network.
