Create a campaign

Campaigns can be created in Studio Content Manager to promote your videos from user-uploaded videos that match your content.

A campaign can apply to all of your assets or just to selected assets. You can also create more than one campaign for different groups of assets.

There are two types of campaigns you can create:

  • Default campaigns, which link to official videos by default.
  • Custom campaigns, which link to specific video of your choosing.
If an asset is included in both a default and a custom campaign, the custom campaign will take precedence. This means that promotional cards will only link to the video as specified in your custom campaign.

Set up a default campaign

Default campaigns let you promote your “official” video (playable reference) on user uploads of the same content. When a user-uploaded video is claimed against your asset, a promotional card shows in their video and links to your official video.

To set up a default campaign:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Settings .
  3. Click Campaigns.
  4. Choose your default:
    • Do nothing
    • Feature official videos on fan uploads. If you choose this option, YouTube adds a card that links to your video from which the claiming asset's reference was created.
  5. Click SAVE.
Note: It’s not possible to set up a default campaign for assets with no playable visual or audiovisual reference.

Set up a custom campaign

Custom campaigns let you specify the video you’d like to promote on user-uploaded videos that are claimed against your assets. Use this type of campaign to promote a specific video for a set of assets, for example:

  • To promote an artist’s new music video on user uploads containing that artist’s work.
  • To promote a new episode on user-uploaded videos containing clips from the show.

Also, you can choose to create a custom campaign that’s either asset-based or label-based:

  • Asset-based lets you select individual assets one-by-one.
  • Label-based lets you select all assets that have particular asset labels applied to them.

Tip: When possible, we recommend creating a label-based campaign because of these benefits:

  • Unlimited number of assets: Label-based campaigns can have an unlimited number of assets. Asset-based campaigns are limited to 25 assets.
  • Better targeting: Asset labels let you easily create campaigns based on specific themes.
  • Automatic updating: If an asset label is part of a campaign, any new assets with that label will be automatically included in the campaign.

To set up a custom campaign:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Campaigns .
  3. Click NEW CAMPAIGN and select a method for identifying the assets in your campaign:
    • Asset-based campaign
    • Label-based campaign
  4. In the Campaign name box, enter a name for your campaign.
  5. In the Featured video box, enter the full URL of your video that you want to promote.
  6. Click Start Date  and use the calendar to choose the date you want your campaign to begin.
  7. Click End Date  and use the calendar to choose the date you want your campaign to end.
  8. Select assets or asset labels:
    • For Asset-based campaigns:
      • Click ADD ASSETS.
      • Click the checkbox next to the assets you want in your campaign. You can select up to 25 assets.
      • When finished selecting, click SELECT # OF 25 ASSETS. (# represents the number of assets you selected).
    • For Label-based campaigns:
      • Click the Asset labels box.
      • Start entering text to search for existing asset labels or to create one.
      • Click the asset label name to add it to your campaign.
  9. Click SAVE.

Notes:

  • Up to 5000 campaigns can be created per Content Manager account.
  • Audio-only matches are eligible for music label partners only.
  • Cards don't show on videos with brief matches.
