Get started with your paid channel

On September 19, 2017, you will no longer be able to create paid content on YouTube. All your existing paid channels or videos will continue to show until December 1, 2017, and then they'll be made private. Individual videos purchased (not rented) will be accessible to purchasers until December 1, 2022 per purchase terms. Learn more about your options for managing paid content.

Paid subscriptions let you monetize your content on YouTube. Once you've enabled your YouTube account for paid content, follow these steps to make sure that your paid channel is properly set up so your fans can subscribe and enjoy your videos.

Before you start: Learn how to create or convert paid videos or paid channels for your account.

Create subscription offers

Your paid channel needs a price so your fans can subscribe to it, so follow these steps to create new subscription offers. Make sure to create offers in other countries so your international fans can subscribe, too.

Upload a channel trailer

Welcome unsubscribed visitors to your channel by creating a short video telling them what your channel is about and why your content is worth the price. Try to keep it under one minute and make sure to check out our best practices for some inspiration.

Add channel art

Follow these instructions to add channel art. This helps brand your channel's identity and give your page a unique look and feel. Your channel art is used on all platforms where viewers can see your channel, but may look different on desktop, mobile, and TV displays.

Describe your channel

Let viewers know what your channel's all about. To add a description, go to your channel's About tab and select + channel description. Make sure to include if the channel contains any content that's inappropriate for minors or only available in some languages, for example:

  • "This channel contains content intended for mature audiences. It is not recommended for viewers under the age of 18."
  • "Some or all of the content on this channel is only available in English."
