Video options on YouTube

Watch videos in full screen, change the video quality and turn captions on or off. You can also learn how to watch videos while browsing on the YouTube mobile app.

You can change your viewing options from the video player on your screen. 

Full screen

  • Rotate your device horizontally.
  • Or tap full screen

Change video quality

  1. In the video player, tap More .
  2. Tap Settings .
  3. Select video quality. 

Enable captions

Not all videos may have closed captioning available.  

  1. In the video player, tap More .
  2. Tap CC .

Zoom

On devices with aspect ratios greater than 16:9, you can zoom in to videos to make the video expand to the full screen.

  1. Go to the video you'd like to zoom.
  2. With two fingers, pinch out on the video screen.

Note: Devices with aspect ratios greater than 16:9 are taller in relation to the width than the standard phone. 16:9, commonly known as widescreen, is the most common aspect ratio for mobile devices, TVs, and computer monitors, and is the international standard format for HDTV.

Fast forward or rewind

  • Double-tap the left side of the video-screen to rewind.
  • Double-tap the right side of the screen to fast-forward.

Watch videos while browsing

The minimize feature lets you browse suggestions, playlists, and more without pausing or stopping a video. You can also pause and play the video while it’s minimized.
Minimize the player: While a video is playing, swipe down. 
Maximize the player: Swipe upwards on the minimized video to maximize it again
Dismiss the player: Swipe down or tap X if you no longer want to view the minimized video.
