Since these items are project files and not an actual video file, follow the instructions below to create a .mov video that will work on YouTube:

  • In iMovie, select Share and then Export Using QuickTime
  • In Finalcut Pro, select File and then Export and then Using Quicktime Conversion
  • In QuickTime Pro, select File and then Export and then Export: Movie to QuickTime Movie

Next, you may want to check your Options to verify that the following settings are correct:

Video settings:
  • Compression Type: H.264
  • Frame Rate: 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, 60 FPS rates are preferred. Other less-common frame rates like 23.98, 29.97, and 59.94 are also acceptable.
  • Data Rate: Automatic
  • Key Frames: Automatic
  • Frame Reordering: Unchecked
Audio/Sound settings:
  • Format: AAC-LC
  • Bitrate: 128 kbps - 256 kbps
  • Sample rate: 44100 or 48000
Other settings:
  • Size: Choose the original size of the video
