Set your default ad formats

Starting in November, we're simplifying the choices for ad formats that appear before or after your video to improve creator revenue. In November, we're removing the individual ad choices for pre-roll, post-roll, skippable and non-skippable ads. Going forward, when you turn on ads for new long-form videos, we'll show your viewers pre-roll, post-roll, skippable or non-skippable ads when appropriate. This change makes the recommended best practice to turn on all ad formats the standard for everyone. Your choices for mid-roll ads are not changing. We will also retain your ad settings for existing long-form videos, unless you change the monetisation settings.

You can set ad format defaults to apply consistently to each new long-form video upload. When you do, you don't have to change the settings every time that you upload a video.

You can specify which types of advertisements YouTube displays by selecting the ad formats that you want to allow. You can override this choice for specific videos. Learn more about how YouTube automatically determines how ad formats display.

We recommend allowing all ad formats on your videos to maximise your earnings. Different ad formats may yield different amounts of revenue and affect video viewership differently. We can't predict how changing your default ad settings might affect your audience/monetisation, but you can use YouTube Analytics to track performance changes.
