Dynamic brand segments allow you to seamlessly add, update, and remove branded segments in new or published videos. Dynamic brand segments are uploaded as separate videos with separate metrics, so you can add, replace, or remove them without affecting the metrics of the long-form videos you add them to. You can add dynamic brand segments to new uploads or previously uploaded content. Dynamic brand segments can also be set to air in specific countries, so that they’re only shown to viewers who find them relevant.
Eligibility
To add dynamic brand segments to your videos, you must be:
- In the YouTube Partner Program.
- Invited to participate in dynamic brand segments.
Requirements
The brand segment video must:
- Be between 30 seconds and 3 minutes long
- Have visibility set to “Unlisted"
- Have monetization turned off
- Be Creator-led content. Third-party video ads or announcer-read ads are prohibited.
- Comply with YouTube's Community Guidelines, Paid Product Placement (PPP) rules, and Google Ads content policies.
Your long-form video must:
- Be at least 8 minutes long
- Have monetization turned on
- Have mid-roll ads turned on
You can add dynamic brand segments to previously published videos or an upcoming upload with visibility set as “Unlisted.”
Upload dynamic brand segments
You can upload dynamic brand segments the same way you upload YouTube videos.
Add dynamic brand segments
Once you upload your brand segment video and the video(s) you want to add it to:
- Go to YouTube Studio.
- From the left hand menu, click Earn
Partnerships.
- Under “Dynamic brand segments” click Set up, or Get Started if this is your first dynamic brand segment.
- Select the brand segment video and up to 20 long-form videos you want your brand segment to play in.
- Underneath the videos, you have two options for where to insert a dynamic brand segment.
- Select a predefined mid-roll slot to reuse as a brand segment slot.
- To set a custom time frame, click Manage slots and insert a new slot.
- Once time slots are selected for each video, click Next.
- Enter the details for your partnership, then click Next.
- Select whether you want to show the dynamic brand segment to viewers globally or to viewers in a specific country, then click Next.
- If you select “Viewers in a specific country”: Select the location of the audience you want to show your dynamic brand segment. Viewers outside the selected country will either receive a mid-roll ad or watch your video uninterrupted.
- Review your dynamic brand segment details, then click Submit.
When you submit a dynamic brand segment, the brand segment video is linked to the provided Google Ads account. Learn more about video linking with Brand Partner Access.
Add dynamic brand segments to old videos
When you add dynamic brand segments to old videos, any brand segments they already contain aren’t automatically removed. To remove old brand segments without affecting your metrics, trim your videos.
Dynamic brand segment approval process
Once you submit a dynamic brand segment, it’s sent to the Brand’s provided Google Ads account. Once the brand accepts, our policy team reviews the brand segment video, typically within 24 hours. If everyone approves it, your dynamic brand segment will go live on the start date provided.
To track the approval status of your dynamic brand segment:
- Go to YouTube Studio.
- From the left-hand menu, click Earn
Partnerships.
- In the “Dynamic brand segments” table, check the “Status” column.
Cancel a dynamic brand segment
To cancel a dynamic brand segment:
- Go to YouTube Studio.
- From the left-hand menu, click Earn
Partnerships.
- Under “Dynamic brand segments”, next to the segment you want to cancel, click Options
, then select Cancel.
Delete a dynamic brand segment
To delete a dynamic brand segment and its associated partnership information from your YouTube Studio account:
- Go to YouTube Studio.
- From the left-hand menu, click Earn
Partnerships.
- Under “Dynamic brand segments”, next to the segment you want to delete, click Options
, then select Delete.
When you delete a dynamic brand segment, the details of the partnership are deleted from YouTube Studio. This data is not recoverable. A copy of the data is visible in Google Ads for your Brand Partner. Your brand segment video and its metrics are unaffected.
Find dynamic brand segment metrics
Your dynamic brand segments’ metrics are separate from the video(s) they’re posted in. To view a dynamic brand segment’s metrics:
- Go to YouTube Studio.
- In the list on the left, click Analytics
.
- From the list in the “Content” section, select the dynamic brand segment.
Google Ads: Your brand partner can view performance metrics for the brand segment video directly in Google Ads. Overall analytics and revenue reporting for your long-form video remain private and are not shared with Google Ads.
Resolve an unapproved partnership
Before you reach out to your brand partner:
- Check that both your dynamic brand segment video and the video(s) you want to add it to meet the associated requirements.
- Check that all videos comply with YouTube's Community Guidelines, Paid Product Placement (PPP) rules, and Google Ads advertising policies.
- Make whatever changes are necessary, then resubmit your dynamic brand segment.
If the segment still isn’t approved, reach out to your brand partner for a more detailed explanation, or to have them submit a policy appeal on your behalf. If they don’t respond or can’t help, contact YouTube Creator Support.
