Manage your ad settings for the YouTube app on Apple devices

At Google, we are committed to giving you transparency, choice and control over your data, including how it is used for advertising.

We give users on iPhones, iPads, and Apple TV the ability to opt-in to more personalized and relevant ads on YouTube. A prompt, aligned with Apple’s App Tracking Transparency, will now surface in the YouTube app, asking for your permission. Your choice affects everyone who uses that device.

How to turn on or turn off permission

When you open the YouTube app, you may get a prompt asking for your permission. Choose whether or not you want to give YouTube permission:

  • Allow: If you turn on this setting, activity from this app will be linked with activity from non-Google apps and websites to show personalized ads and provide ad measurement. Your choice will be applied to all users of the YouTube app on the device where the setting is turned on.
  • Ask App Not to Track: If you don’t turn this setting on, activity from this app will not be linked with activity from non-Google apps and websites to show personalized ads and provide ad measurement. This will make your overall ads experience in this app less personalized, and may result in less relevant and more repeated ads.

This setting does not affect the linking of activity on other Google apps and websites with activity from non-Google apps and websites. This setting also does not affect use of activity from the YouTube iOS, iPadOS or tvOS app and other Google apps and websites to personalize ads, depending on your Google personalized ads choice.

The prompt will not be shown to all users. For example, YouTube Premium users and users with child accounts on YouTube will not be shown the prompt.

At any time, you can go to your device’s settings for the YouTube app to change this setting.
