Create an AI-generated soundtrack in Shorts with Dream Track

Dream Track is available in most countries outside of the European Economic Area for creators who have their YouTube device language set to English.

Users in the United States can also access Dream Track via the YouTube Create app. Learn more about the YouTube Create app.

Global audiences can use eligible soundtracks as-is to remix them into their own Shorts.

Dream Track is a suite of experimental tools that enable creators to generate unique music for their Shorts. We believe that this will foster a thriving ecosystem that benefits artists, creators and fans. Our first experiment in Shorts involved a partnership with selected artists and their AI-generated artist voices. Now, creators have the option to generate soundtracks for Shorts and image posts that appear in the Shorts Feed using AI.

How it works

Create a custom soundtrack for your Short

Dream Track is a Shorts creation tool that creates an AI-generated soundtrack based on your text prompt. You can share the soundtrack with your audience, and they can create their own remixes from it. The AI-generated soundtracks will have a text label indicating that they were created with Dream Track.

YouTube app

1. Open the YouTube app .
2. Tap Create .
3. At the bottom, tap Short or Post. If you choose Post, select an image now.
4. At the top, tap Add sound Create music .
5. Select an artist or style and describe a song that you would like to generate.
   • Note: You can enter text prompts in English. Prompts are limited to 50 characters and are subject to several safety features.
6. Tap Create. You can preview the song and the lyrics.
7. Tap Next . For Shorts, you can record a video to go with it and then use the editor screen where you can add text, filters and more.
8. Tap Next. Add details to your video or post, such as a description and the privacy settings.
9. Tap Upload Short or Post to publish.

YouTube Create app

Note: Currently only on Android devices.

1. Open the Create app.
2. Tap Create .
3. Select and import a photo or video that you would like to use.
4. At the bottom left, tap down to change the menu.
5. Tap Sound Generated soundtracks Generate soundtrack.
6. Describe a song that you would like to generate
   • Note: You can enter text prompts in English. Prompts are limited to 85 characters and subject to several safety features.
7. Once you've finished creating your soundtrack, export and then upload your content to YouTube.

Who is eligible to use Dream Track?

Anyone can view the AI-generated soundtrack.

Who is eligible to remix the songs?

Once a video and song are published, they will be available in the Shorts player for all others to view and remix as-is. This means that anyone can take the Shorts and remix them as-is by using the 'Use this sound', 'Cut this video' and 'Green Screen' features.

Note: Image posts that use Dream Track are not eligible for any remixing features.

Are the songs available for download?

No, the generated soundtrack cannot be downloaded. However, certain Shorts that include the generated soundtrack are downloadable.

YouTube's Community Guidelines apply to all content on YouTube, including content generated by Dream Track, and we remain committed to removing any material that violates our policies.
