Request a refund

If you have made a purchase using your iPhone or iPad, or signed up for a YouTube paid membership via Apple, you'll need to get in touch with Apple support to request a refund. Apple's refund policy will apply.

Refunds may be available for the following YouTube services and memberships. Not all payments on YouTube services and memberships are refundable. See below for details.

REQUEST A REFUND

Looking for a channel membership refund? Channel memberships are different from YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium memberships. Learn more about channel membership refunds.

You may cancel a YouTube paid membership at any time. Once you've cancelled, you will not be charged again and your benefits will continue until the end of the billing cycle. You won't be refunded for the length of time between when you cancel and when your membership officially ends.

If content or features related to your YouTube paid membership are

  • Defective
  • Unavailable
  • Do not perform as stated

 

Movie and show refunds

If you're experiencing issues playing a movie or TV show that you've purchased, take a look at these troubleshooting steps for help.

If you haven't watched your show or movie, you can request a refund within seven working days of the purchase.

On a computer:

  1. Go to youtube.com/purchases.
  2. Go to the item that you would like refunded.
  3. Select Problem with purchase? on the item.
  4. Click Request a refund and then Confirm

If you can't request a refund directly from this page or if the movie or show that you rented or purchased is:

  • Defective
  • Unavailable
  • Doesn't perform as stated

Paid virtual events

You can request a refund up until the scheduled start time of the event.

On a computer:

  1. Go to your purchases page.
  2. Click Refund next to the item that you would like refunded.
  3. Click Request refund.
  4. You will get an email confirmation.

If your refund is approved, you'll get a confirmation on the next screen.  We'll remove access to the content and your money will be returned within the refund timelines listed below.

If you purchased a paid virtual event via Apple, you'll need to get in touch with Apple Support to request a refund. Apple's own refund policy will apply.

Troubleshooting

  • You can't request a refund by following the directions above.
  • The event that you rented or purchased is defective, unavailable or doesn't perform as stated.

Refunds

  2. Go to the item that you would like refunded.

Super Chat

Super Chat voluntary payments are non-refundable. If you notice an unauthorised Super Chat charge on your account, please contact our support team.

If you purchased a Super Chat on an iPhone or iPad, you'll need to get in touch with Apple support to request a refund. Apple's own refund policy will apply.

Super Stickers

Super Sticker voluntary payments are non-refundable. If you notice an unauthorised Super Sticker charge on your account, get in touch with our support team.

Super Thanks

Super Thanks voluntary payments are non-refundable. If you notice an unauthorised Super Thanks charge on your account, please get in touch with our support team.

Donations 

Donations are non-refundable. If you're having trouble with a payment, you can contact our support team.
Channel memberships

You may cancel your paid channel membership at any time. Once you've cancelled, you won't be charged again. You'll be able to use the badge and have access to creator perks until the end of the billing cycle. Note that you won't be refunded for the period of time between when you cancel and when your channel membership officially ends.

If you notice an unauthorised channel memberships charge on your account, follow these steps to report the unauthorised charge. If creator perks or other features of your paid channel membership are defective, unavailable or do not perform as stated, you may contact our support team to request a refund at any time. We do not provide refunds or credits for partially elapsed billing periods. 

If you're a member who signed up via Apple, you'll need to contact Apple support to request a refund for your paid channel membership. Apple's refund policy will apply.

How long refunds take

Refund timelines
Refunds from YouTube are returned to the payment method used to make the original purchase. Refunds take different amounts of time depending on how you paid.
If your refund is taking longer than expected, check your refund status on your Google Payments account. If the status is 'Refunded', you'll find a credit on your form of payment. If the status is 'Cancelled', the order was not charged and you will not find a credit on your form of payment.

Processing time may be affected by the card issuer and sometimes takes up to 10 working days.

If your credit card is no longer active, refunds will go to the bank that issued your card. To recover funds, contact the bank.

Direct operator billing (prepaid/pay-as-you-go)

1–30 working days

Processing time may be affected by your operator and sometimes takes longer.

Direct operator billing (postpaid/contract)

1–2 monthly statements

Processing time may be affected by your operator, but refunds will usually appear within two monthly billing statements. If it takes longer, contact your operator to check the status.

Google Play balance (gift card or credit balance)

1 working day

Refunds appear in your Google payments account. Occasionally, the refund can take up to three working days.

Google Pay balance

1 working day

Refunds appear in your Google Pay account. Occasionally, the refund can take up to three working days.

Online banking

4–10 working days

Processing time depends on your bank, but typically takes 4–10 working days.

PayPal

3–5 working days

Refunds can take up to 10 working days. If you're returning the money to a payment method within PayPal, contact PayPal for more information.

iTunes If you purchased your YouTube Premium membership using iTunes, you'll need to get in touch with Apple support for the status of your refund.
Unified Payments Interface (India only)

Three business days

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) refunds appear in your bank account.

If money was debited from your account but you did not receive the good(s) or service(s) that you intended to purchase, we will automatically initiate a refund to your bank account. If you don't receive the refund within three days of the transaction, please contact us.

Payco (Korea only)

3–5 working days

A refund can sometimes take up to 10 working days. If it takes longer, contact PAYCO for more detailed information.

KakaoPay (Korea only)

3–5 working days

A refund can sometimes take up to 10 working days. If it takes longer, contact KakaoPay for more detailed information.

Mercado Pago (Brazil only) 3–5 working days
