How do I get started with Content Manager?

This article lists some of the most commonly asked questions for new Content Manager users.

Your videos cannot be claimed for your Content Manager account until you link your YouTube user account to your Content Manager account. Follow these steps to link your YouTube user account(s) to your Content Manager account:

  1. Go to the User Accounts page in Content Manager.
  2. In the form, enter the username and password for the YouTube user account that you want to link to your Content Manager account.
  3. Check the 'Enable Web Claiming' option.
  4. Click the Add User button.

Once your YouTube user account is linked to your Content Manager account, you can claim videos sharing through the following steps:

  1. Log in to your YouTube account.
  2. On your My Videos page, click the Claim Video button next to a video that you want to claim.
  3. On the Web Claiming page, choose a policy for the video and save your changes.
  4. Repeat this process for each video that you want to claim.

Alternatively, use the Claim My Assets tool to claim videos in bulk. The Claim My Assets tool is available from the Content Manager Overview page.

How do I create and manage a saved policy?

The Manage Policies page in your account settings lets you create and modify policies for your content. (You can't create and edit policies on your YouTube channel.)

The Manage Policies page lists all of the policies you have defined, and radio buttons identify the default usage and match policies for your content. (The match policy button is only active if you participate in YouTube's Content Identification program.)

For more information about creating and managing policies, please see the Help Center article about creating a saved policy as well as other articles in the Managing Policies section of the Help Center.

How do I modify the policies for multiple videos at the same time?

Content Manager's bulk update tool lets you update policies and settings for multiple videos at once. For a complete list of those policies and settings, please refer to the Understanding bulk updating tools article.

When do I get paid and how much have I earned so far?

Earnings can be viewed in two places

  1. The Earnings Report displays partner earnings for both YouTube and AdSense for the most recent three months.
  2. Monthly reports are downloadable reports which display revenue that your videos earned on the YouTube website. The total amount payable is available at the bottom of the feed in the amount_payable.amount and amount_payable.currency fields.

However, please note that AdSense earnings are not included in these monthly reports. AdSense earnings can be viewed through the Earnings Report (as noted above), in your Content Manager AdSense Report, or through Google AdSense.

How can I claim videos for another YouTube account that I own?

To claim videos for another YouTube account that you own, set that account up as a linked user account through the User Accounts page in your account settings. Linked user accounts let you assign ownership for your videos to specific user accounts, and they let you use your Content Manager account to manage videos that are associated with different YouTube user accounts.

The following instructions explain how to link a YouTube user account to your Content Manager account:

  1. Go to the User Accounts page in Content Manager.
  2. In the form, enter the username for the YouTube user account that you want to link to your Content Manager account.
  3. Check the Monetize uploads option and, if you wish, the Enable Auto Claiming option.
  4. Click the Add User button.
