Route claims for manual review

Features described in this article only apply to users of YouTube Studio Content Manager. For info on general YouTube policies, learn more here.

Content ID automatically claims user-uploaded videos without human intervention but you can select an option to require a manual review before the claim becomes active.

Select the Route for review option

To require a manual review, create a policy that specifies the rules and conditions under which you want a claim to get a manual review.

For example, you might want to verify claims on videos that Content ID identifies as matching your asset less than 50%. Once you create the policy, it would result in these actions:

Rule Condition
Monetise the video If the amount that a video matches my asset is greater than 50%
Monetise the video; route for review If the amount that a video matches my asset is smaller than 50%

As an example, to set up the above policy:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Policies .
  3. Click ADD NEW POLICY
  4. Enter a Policy name and Policy description.
  5. Click ADD RULE and then Monetise.
  6. Click ADD CONDITION and then User video match amount.
  7. Next to User video match amount, select Percent (%) and Is greater than. In the text box, enter 50.
  8. Click ADD RULE and then Route for review. Set the action to Monetise.
    • Note: You can also click ADD RULE and then Monetise. Then, tick the box next to Route for review.
  9. Click ADD CONDITION and then User video match amount.
  10. Next to User video match amount, select Percent (%) and Is smaller than. In the text box, enter 50.
  11. Click SAVE.

Manually review claims

When Content ID identifies a match, a match policy is applied to the claimed video. If the match policy has the 'Route for review' option selected, then the video is considered a potential claim. It means that the claim is in place but it stays inactive until it's manually reviewed.

Potential claims appear in your Content Manager on the Issues page when you filter by Potential Claims. You can view the potential claims that were routed to review by selecting Potential Claims > Routed to review. Learn more about reviewing potential claims.
