Remove linked channels

These features are only available to partners who use YouTube Studio Content Manager.
When you remove a linked channel, you eliminate the link between that channel and your Content Manager. You lose the ability to:
  • Control monetization for the videos on that channel
  • Claim videos for that channel
  • Set if the channel owner can claim and monetize the channel’s videos (the ability to claim videos is reserved for the Content Manager by default)
  • View historical revenue and performance data for that channel

Plan your unlinking strategy

Depending on whether you edit individual assets before unlinking a channel, the results of unlinking will vary. Use the descriptions below to unlink with your desired outcome:

Unlink and release all claims

If you remove your ownership from individual assets before unlinking, claims on both user-generated videos and videos uploaded by the channel you’re unlinking will be deactivated.

Unlink and release claims on your videos

If you unlink a channel without editing individual asset ownership, claims on user-generated videos will stay active. The reference file associated with those assets will be deactivated. All claims on videos uploaded by the channel you’re unlinking will be released.

Unlink and keep claims active

This option is only available if the channel is moving to a new Content Manager. If you transfer ownership of the channel’s assets before unlinking the channel, all claims will stay active.

Remove a channel from your Content Manager

Note: Removing a channel from your account does not remove the channel from YouTube or delete any of the content on the channel. Any of your partner-uploaded claims will be released, but claims on user-generated content won't be impacted. If you want to release any claims, release them before removing the channel.

To remove a linked channel from your Content Manager:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Channels .
  3. Check the box next to the channel you’d like to remove.
  4. Click UNLINK and then CONFIRM.
