Create a scoped view

You use a scoped view to define the source data accessed for a scan. Scoped-view entries work even if the source data is changed. For example, Google Workspace Migrate can resolve the scoped view entry if a mail folder is renamed.

Tip: If you have a lot of data to scan, use scoped views to manage data. A scoped view allows you to divide the data into chunks, allowing you to scan in manageable phases.

Step 1: Create a CSV file to add multiple entries

You can add multiple entries to a scoped view using a comma-separated values (CSV) file. Scoped-view CSV files must contain:

  • A header row specifying the object type.
  • Rows under the header with locations for the specified types.

A scoped view can have multiple columns, each with a type-name header. If there's no value in a column, then that column is disregarded for the row. Make sure the character encoding of the CSV file is set to UTF-8.

Step 2: Create a scoped view

  1. In the Google Workspace Migrate platform, click Connections. You might have to click Menu  first.
  2. Next to your connection, click Scoped views .
  3. In the top-right corner, click Add .
  4. Enter a name for your scoped view.
  5. Click Upload CSV file to upload a CSV file or drag a file to the box.
  6. Click Create.
