Managed google play ended support for paid applications???? Is there a workaround?
0
It looks like Managed Google Play suddenly cut off support for Paid Applications.  This makes it an inferior service for us that no longer meets our needs.  Is there a way now to deploy paid applications on Android Devices?

Hi Scott

For deploying paid apps today in a way that scales, reach out to the developers of the apps you're interested in deploying for licensing options.

For many of us the Bulk Purchase Program never even made it to our regions, and so we've been working around this limitation for a number of years.

The ideal situation would be the developers making a version of the app downloadable without upfront payment, which unlocks with a license key pushed via managed config.

That, or you agree to licensing externally and they supply a unique app package name you can upload as a private app to the managed Google Play iFrame within your EMM.

This is really disappointing that Google has cut off support for this.  We're trying to distribute our application to teachers to distribute to their students, and the methods you mention are far too complicated for them to manage.  Any idea why Google would do something like this?  This really leaves managed google play customers significantly at a disadvantage to the App Store.

On that basis for your usecase I'd say you may perhaps handle the licensing, and I can assure you it isn't as complex as it sounds (again, many regions have had no other choice).

Google cite lack of use if I recall. Catch 22, since global support would have garnered more use!

Hi Scott,

Generally, we've seen enterprise-deployed applications licensed from outside of Google Play. That means an enterprise will pay you, the developer, and activate the application either through end-user authentication, or through entering in a license key. You can scale the license key distribution process through the use of managed configurations. Using managed configs, you can push a string that defines the license key down to the application that is defined in the customer's EMM, this eliminates the need for an end user to type the data in manually.
