Contacts from Outlook not in contacts of phone (COBO / ZT)
1
Hi,

I have a question regarding sharing contacts from the Outlook app to the contacts of a device. The devices (Samsung and Pixel) are enrolled using the fully managed approach, so no work profile. In the Outlook app I have enabled this functionality under "Settings > Account > Sync contacts", but still nothing in the contacts or dialer app. I checked the Android Enterprise feature list and found the screenshot below. Does this mean in the fully managed device setup I can not share the contacts with the device contacts and dialer app, so no caller ID when people receive calls?

Would be great if somebody could confirm that I understood this correctly.

EDIT: There is no such thing as a profile in the Fully Managed scenario, but I thought this was the closest to the contacts sharing part.

Hi Jason,

Yeah I learned that the API shown in the screenshot wasn't necessarily responsible for my use case after I posted.

The same functionality enabled works in the COPE scenario. So yeah, probably best to contact Microsoft and ask for assistance.

Thanks for clarifying

Microsoft basically says;

"At this point, as we can notice relates to the type of Android Enterprise flavour, in this case COBO.
You may create a case with Google to check why you are not able to search on the native dialer the synced work contacts.

The only expected scenario, as documented, would be the dialer to access the work contact on the personal work profile. "

I'm a bit confused now...

If you open Outlook on the web and check the contacts you have there, do they show up in the native contacts app on your device? You won't see GAL contacts in the native contacts which is often what folks are looking for, but if you were to save 30 contacts within your 365 account they should appear on the native contacts app once the setting to allow this is checked in Outlook mobile.

Let me know!

I can see the contacts that I create manually under "Your contacts", the other contacts show up under "Default Global Address List". The default GAL is what I can see on a work profile device and also on iOS, but not on a fully managed device. I was looking for GAL in fully managed, just as you said. So I can assume that this scenario is not possible in fully managed devices setup?

Thanks for your help so far.

I'm an end user on a Pixel 2XL with Boxer from VMWare. From the Messages app (in my personal profile) my Work Contacts disappeared. I was able to turn off and turn back on contact sharing from Boxer to have them reappear in both the Contacts and Messages apps on my personal account, but I only see contacts from my personal side in the phone dialer. I do not have a dialer in my Work profile, so I'm basically unable to see who is calling or easily make phone calls without going into Boxer Contacts.

Additionally, there doesn't seem to be any way from Phone app to add different sets of contacts or manage accounts.

Help!!!
