Is there really no way to change the channel on this "sophisticated" wifi "solution?!?" 0 Recommended Answers 2 Replies 0 Upvotes

My neighbors recently got Google wifi according to my monitoring app - immediately this caused mine to randomly drop connection all during the day and night.  I can see that even though they are probably 500 or more feet from me the signal from their google wifi is on the exact same channel and that channel is really crowded in both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.  I've already read there isn't a way to change the channel but that cannot be right - it's insane that I can't do something a cheap router from WalMart could do?!?!

Hello Jordan,

Google WiFi will automatically switch 2.4GHz channels to avoid interference in that band, but there are only 3 channels to choose from there, so it is often a matter of picking the least bad option. 5GHz range is so much shorter, though, that they don't do the same thing there – 500 ft should be far enough not to cause problems.

But what do we do if all the planning and "should be's" aren't good enough?  I can manually fiddle with any other router ever made but I can't even login to this one - all I have is an app that only contacts the router via internet... it doesn't even work via local connection when the internet is having issues.
