I cannot set up my wifi network 1 Recommended Answer 5 Replies 9 Upvotes

I am trying to set up a Google WiFi network.  My phone can find the point and I go through all the setup parts.  It then gets to a point where it says something about saving settings and that stays visible for a while.  I then get an error that says Something went wrong - Looks like we lost contact with your wifi point.  Please ensure that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are still enabled.

I have checked bluetooth and wifi.  I have turned them both off and on.  I have restarted the phone.  I have forgotten all other wifi networks.  I have uninstalled and re-installed the Google wifi app.  The power and ethernet connections are both connected all the time - ethernet into a LAN port in the back of the wifi router that connects to the NBN modem.  It happens every time (probably about 20 to 30 attempts so far.  I have tried naming the network different names.  Nothing helps.

You're adding a Google WiFi point to an existing WiFi router, this means that you now have two routers (double NAT) on your network.  You need to attach it directly to the modem and take the existing WiFi router out of the equation.  If, for some reason not explained you want to keep the existing router then things will become a great deal more complicated.

It looks as if the problem was that the power supplies were not the original ones, and did not deliver enough current.  I got higher powered supplies and now I can set it up.  2 of the 3 points are now working fine.  The other one won't work even after being factory reset.  I am suspicious that one is broken.  Does anyone have any ideas about what to do with a wifi point that won't factory reset properly?  It never gets to the blue pulsing light that it is supposed to.  Just gets a solid blue light, which then turns off for a few seconds, then back to solid blue again.  Over and over again.  The app cannot detect it

Oh yes, I do have to keep my original wifi router (although with the wifi turned off).  It is also a VOIP connection for my phone, and the company I am with has dedicated firmware in the router and apparently it is the only device that will work with their VOIP system.  Now that I have decent power supplies it does all seem to work smoothly though except for the one broken point.
