Test mesh connection

The mesh test measures the connection between your router or primary Wifi point (the one connected to your modem) and any additional points. The stronger that connection is, the better your Wi-Fi will be throughout your house. If the mesh connection is weak, then it'll be more prone to interference, less reliable and can become a speed bottleneck for all devices connected to it.

Note: This test is only available if you have multiple mesh Wi-Fi routers or points.

To run a mesh test:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Favorites  and then Wifi  and then Points and then Test mesh.

How to improve a weak mesh connection

If your point has a weak mesh connection, try to move it closer to your router or primary Wifi point (the one connected to your modem). Points work better when they're closer together. Note that you want to place a mesh node in between the places of poor coverage and the closest mesh point. Also, try to make sure that they are out in the open and there aren't any objects, like multiple thick and dense walls, furniture or appliances that might block the signal between Wifi points.

Sometimes you need to move your Wi-Fi device to a different or higher location that has a better connection in order to improve the weak Wifi point's performance.

Note: While checking the mesh connection status of your Wi-Fi devices, the connection might quickly vary between a 'weak connection' and 'good connection'. This happens when your speed test result is on the borderline between two ratings. If the speed results stay inconsistent, it's recommended that you move the point closer to the nearest router or point.
