Edit device names

You can change the names of the devices connected to your Wi-Fi network. Some devices might have hard-to-identify names (for example, a printer might be displayed as 'a738b00002') or two similar devices might repeat the same name. The Google Wifi and Google Home apps let you edit device names to something simple and recognisable like 'Amy’s laptop'. All owners and managers of your Wi-Fi network will see the new edited name.

Note: This will only change how the device’s name appears in the app. It will not affect the device hostname.

With the Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi  and then Devices.
  3. Tap the device that you want to change.
