WAN vs. LAN

What is WAN?

Wide Area Network (WAN) is the outside world’s network of connected computers. Think of WAN as the Internet. Your modem gets and sends information to and from the Internet through its WAN port.

What is LAN?

A local area network (LAN) is the collection of wired and Wi-Fi-connected devices in your home or office. This is your personal network. You computer, phone, tablet, router, etc. make up your LAN.

Where are the WAN and LAN ports on my Wifi point?

The WAN/LAN ports are found on the bottom of your Wifi point.

If you have a TP-Link OnHub, twist the outer shell counterclockwise and lift to reveal the ports. If you have an ASUS OnHub, the ports are on the on the back near the base.

The WAN port is on the bottom next to the globe icon . Directly above it is the LAN port .
