Change Wi-Fi password

You can update your Nest Wifi or Google Wifi password in the Google Home app. Network passwords are alphanumeric. This means that they're a combination of letters and numbers. There are however some restrictions.

  • Passwords must be between 8 and 63 characters.
  • No spaces. Make sure that there isn't an accidental space at the beginning or end of your network name or password.

If you change your network Wi-Fi password, all of your devices will be disconnected from Wi-Fi until you update these devices with the new password. If you forget to update your password on a device, the Google Home app will provide a network insight after seven days to let you know that a device can't connect.

Change your Wi-Fi password

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Favourites  and then Wi-Fi  and then Network settings and then your existing password.
  3. Enter a new password.
  4. Tap Save.

Reuse an older network name and password

If you reuse a network name and password from an old router, you won't have to reconnect devices that were previously on the network.

Note: If your old router is still broadcasting a Wi-Fi network, you may experience odd behaviour because some devices will be connected to your Wi-Fi router or point and others connected to your older router. Enable Bridge mode on your old router, or if it's not needed, turn off your older router to fix this issue.
