Incorrect 'failing' status: Popup falls under 2 (c) of BAS 1 Recommended Answer 5 Replies 8 Upvotes

Hi there,

Thanks in advance to any support we receive on this issue!

We run a number of news websites, all of which had popups running. We went ahead and made sure that our desktop popups fell within the guidelines outlined in the 'Interpretation of the Initial Better Ads Standards - Advisory'. In this it states one exception to the 'no popups' rule as: "once the user has reached the end of the first article on a page;". We implemented a scroll triggered function on our popup on all our sites, so that it only appeared once the user had reached the end of the article.

We sent all our sites for a review and all passed. Oddly though, a few weeks later we received notification that one of our sites now failed again. So we sent for review, it was failed again. I asked for specific review on each page they flagged, stating in each review how we had actioned the changes and fall under the list of exceptions. Each page had it's initial verdict upheld.

How do I go about having a actual human look at the site, read the advisory and note how our functionality falls under the except 2 (c) in their advisory? At the very least, how do I go about getting an actual response from Google regarding the matter rather than just the same message sent?

Hoping someone can help

Carl

Hi Carl,

Please challenge the review in Search Console, and if you could also include your URL in this community thread, I can take a look.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason T,

Many thanks for your response!

We have challenged the review several times:
  1. We challenged the review and gave the reasons. This was denied
  2. We challenged each individual page that they gave as examples, and gave reasons for each. These were all denied.
Website in question is: https://www.ifa.com.au/

Changes to the ad unit are exactly the same as what we have implemented on our other sites, it is difficult to understand why they have passed and this one originally passed but has been failed again.

Hope you can help

Thanks

Carl

Was this issue ever resolved?

For the benefit of other users searching the forum for answers to questions similar to what they are experiencing, what was needed to get the issue resolved?   Since there is no way to have an interactive dialog with whoever reviews the sites, users are forced to search the forum, so if there's no detailed explanation in the forum post explaining what that resolution involved, searching the forums just leads to further frustration with still no clear path to resolving their own issue, especially if no one will respond to their own post about their own issue.
