Winston Churchill’s Image Removed in UK/US Search Results

Search results in the UK:

Search results in other countries:

Results when searching for WW2 leaders:

The images on the search results are taken from Wikipedia, it’s not clear to me why this would break in only the UK and the US. It’s especially interesting given the current controversy around Churchill in our countries. Even more interesting is that pictures of Hitler, Stalin and Mao are shown with no issues.

Can you please reinstate Churchill’s picture, and if not, can you explain why you won’t?

We’re aware an image for Sir Winston Churchill is missing from his Knowledge Graph entry on Google. We apologise for any concern. This was not purposeful & will be resolved. Images in such panels are automatically created & updated. During an update, they can briefly disappear.

If a Knowledge Graph image is missing due to an update, the subject will be named but lack an image in anything automatically generated from the Knowledge Graph. This is why Churchill’s image (but not his name) is missing from some lists. It is temporary & will be resolved.

The image issue only applies to Knowledge Graph-generated information. Many images of Churchill are easily found through both web and image searching on Google.

Some have noted that Churchill’s first term does not appear for a search on UK prime ministers that shows an automatically generated Knowledge Graph list. This is not specific to Churchill; a similar thing happens with Wilson, MacDonald and Baldwin.

We’re exploring why the first terms for Churchill, Wilson, MacDonald & Baldwin are not shown. It might be that our systems are only displaying the last term of prime ministers who had non-consecutive terms. We’ll seek to address this to avoid any unintentional concern.

We don’t have an exact time for when Churchill’s Knowledge Graph image will be restored, but it will be as rapidly done as possible. We’ll want to explore exactly why an automatic update caused it to disappear & see if there are any improvements in those systems to address.

When the Knowledge Graph image is restored for Churchill, his image will again be shown in Knowledge Graph-generated content, where only his name shows now. Again, apologies for concern caused. You can learn more about how our Knowledge Graph works here.

Hi Shirgar,

I did a search for "UK Prime Ministers" in the US and then checked the carousel at the top for Winston Churchill's picture.  I didn't see it, but then click on the arrow to the right so that more pictures would show up and here is what I saw.  It looks like a default picture.

Hello Google can you please let me know why you decided to remove Winston Churchill from your search engine. This action puts your organisation on the same level as Nazis burning books. You cannot and will not erase history. Restore Winston Churchill now!!!

Why have Google taken it upon themselves to rewrite history?
This is no mistake or programming error. This is a deliberate attempt to brainwash its users to accept its political agenda.
His details must be reinstated.
Otherwise there are other search engines available that aren't attempting to rewrite our history
Winston Churchill is a national hero. He ensured by rejecting calls for a pact with Nazi Fascists, that Europe & the World were safe from the worst racist dictatorship the world has ever seen.
Nazi's hated black people. Had they have won, millions of black people would have been exterminated, to get her with Jewish people, disabled, gay & virtually any other none Aryan.

I can't begin to express how hurtful this is to those of us who owe our liberty to Winston. My parents were 19 when WW2 was declared and continued to express their admiration for him throughout their lives. He is a towering figure in our history and, although a man of his time, his vilification by the Far Left shames only those who promote it. Google has no place in appeasing them, so please reinstate the image immediately and publish an explanation and an apology.

Don't delete my comment again, it's disgusting that google would remove or allow to be removed the Image of the greatest PM the Uk ever had. Fix it Fast before Brits decide to delete and bin Google's products and services. Also, see you think H1tler, Stalin, Mussolini & Mao are all fine but not Churchill
