Is there a way to turn off the predictive text feature on Google iPhone app?

The problem: I am trying to turn off the predictive text feature on the Google mobile app. It adds random, unhelpful words to my google searches and it does something weird whenever I try to backspace(idk how to describe it succinctly).

What I have tried: I went to settings to see if I could turn it off. I tried toggling off “Show Personal Results,”  “Autocomplete with Trending Searches,” and “Search Hint” and none of that worked. When I typed this question out in the help center, none of the suggestions were helpful.

Is this even something I can prevent from happening or is this just one of Google’s new annoying things?

Hi KamP,

If you’re looking to turn off the predictive text feature in the Google app on your iPhone, here’s what you can do:
How to Turn Off Predictive Text in the Google App on iPhone:
  1. Open Google App:
    • Open the Google app on your iPhone.
  2. Access Settings:
    • Tap on your profile picture or initial in the top right corner.
    • Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.
  3. Turn Off Autocomplete and Predictions:
    • Look for options like "Autocomplete with Trending Searches" and "Search suggestions" and turn them off. Since you mentioned trying this already, make sure these settings are properly toggled off.
  4. Turn Off Predictive Text in iPhone Settings:
    • Go to your iPhone’s "Settings" app.
    • Tap on "General" > "Keyboard."
    • Turn off "Predictive" to disable the predictive text feature for all keyboards on your iPhone.
  5. Check Google Account Settings:
    • Sometimes predictive text can be influenced by your Google account settings.
    • Go to Google Account.
    • Navigate to "Data & personalization."
    • Under "Activity controls," turn off "Web & App Activity" to prevent Google from using your activity data for predictions.

Alternative Solution:

If turning off predictive text in the Google app settings and your iPhone settings doesn’t solve the problem, consider using the browser version of Google Search. Open Safari or any other browser and go to google.com to perform your searches without the predictive text feature interfering.

Contact Support:

Since you’ve already tried several steps and the problem persists, it might be useful to contact Google Support directly for further assistance. They can provide more detailed help specific to your issue.

By following these steps, you should be able to reduce or eliminate the predictive text interference in your Google searches on your iPhone.
