Google won't stop redirecting me, help!

Sorry if I screwed up somewhere, this is my first time using this forum.  But whenever I search something on google chrome and try to open the link on google it automatically redirects me to a completely different website!  I can open stuff from my favourites bar and if I put a link in the URL search bar it will take me to the website but google links will always redirect me, and I'm only having this problem on chrome.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled  For example if I search youtube and click on the link it will take me to a fitness website or a news website.  I don't know what to do at this point, anything is helpful.8

Hi TheCompassMan,

I am going to send this to someone on our team who I think can help with your specific problem, but it'd help if you could give me a bit more information:

1) What version of chrome are you using?
2) Which google domain are you searching from?
3) Is it possible to take a screen shot of your Google search and the resulting site you are lead to?

Thanks,

Kousha

The version I'm using is if I'm not mistaken: 21.0.1180.77
Sorry, but I can't take screen shots of the search and resulting site
and could you elaborate on what you mean by the domain I searched from?  I just typed my search into the google search bar from the google homepage if that's what you mean

Hey TheCompassMan,

Thanks for posting about this issue. Based on your description, it sounds like a Chrome extension may be responsible for the redirect behavior. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask a few additional questions:

1) Have you recently installed any new Chrome extensions?
2) Would you mind providing a list of the Chrome extensions that you currently have installed?

For reference, you can find your extensions by clicking on the wrench in the upper right corner of the Chrome window, hovering over "Tools" and selecting "Extensions".

Hopefully we can figure out what's going on.

Cheers!
Jeremy

I haven't installed any new extensions recently and the only extensions I currently have are: custom new tab version, and web assistant.
And thanks so much for your help with my dilemma.

Does this happen in a Chrome Incognito window or not ( Ctrl-Shift-N ) ?
Does it happen on other browsers ?

No problem. You may want to remove Web Assistant from the Add/Remove Programs list as well, particularly if you notice other adware-like behavior.

Cheers!
