How do I turn off Google doodles?

I can't use my computer because of the way the Martha Graham doodle is slowing down my computer when I try to type. Right now, I'm typing at 1 character per 5 seconds.

Please help, I want to bury my head in my hands and cry at the incompetence of the people at Google responsible. Failing that, a good councellor should help.

I came here to rant for the same reason. What the hell were you thinking Google? Did you think we were so keen to learn about this little known choreographer that you figured we wouldn't mind you slowing down our desktops to a crawl? Are you trying to slow down the interface to that of Yahoo or Bing?

Cannot believe how incompetent Google is in placing this animation at the top of the search page.  This is affecting milliions of PCs and either they don't care or are completely incompetent.

I type a reply and get a 503 Service Unavailable page.  This is the third time I've tried to reply to this post.

If you click on Martha and let Google search her name for you, she disappears from the top of the page and your typing speeds up.  You can now search normally in the box where her name appeared.

Google should know better than to put some weird thing up that moves slowly and almost stops our computers from working.  PITA!

Hi blackhead,

Google does not provide any way to switch off Doodles. They’re an integral part of Google’s corporate image on the Google Search homepage and the Google Chrome New Tab page. If you don’t want to see Doodles, you’ll have to take some action yourself — it all depends on how determined you are!

Chrome’s New Tab page will show Doodles by default so be sure to set the start up page to a homepage of your choice, not the New Tab page with the Doodle. If you open a new tab page a lot, you may want to consider installing an extension that overrides the Chrome New Tab page so that you don't see the Doodle.

Here are a few suggestions for avoiding the Doodle on the Google Search homepage (desktop/laptop):

• Search from the browser address bar instead of the Google Search homepage

• Search from the results page instead of from the Google Search homepage

• Install the Adblock Plus extension and block the Google logo

• Use a proprietary or personal homepage instead of Google's, e.g. the Firefox homepage

• Install a user script such as DoodleGone to replace the Doodle with a plain Google logo

Hope this helps!

Nealeigh
