dickydoGoogle instant is horrible. I can't turn it off. The vast majority seem to agree. Google - STOP adding this stuff!!
1 Recommended AnswerNone of the procedures for turning off Google Instant work. I hate it. I do NOT want suggestions. Why do you add a feature that cannot be turned off?

eiagencyIn Firefox you need to use the recommended URL http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en and, in preferences, uncheck "remember search and form history".
Boy what an annoying feature.

Kelly FHi dickydo,
I'm sorry to hear that you don't like Google Instant, but you should definitely be able to turn it off if you so choose. Would you mind telling me which browser and operating system you're using so I can investigate your problem?
Thanks,
Kelly

Google userHi Kelly,
I too am having the same problem. I do not wish to use Google Instant. I personally find it really annoying. I have chosen the option to turn it off several times to no avail. I am using Internet Explorer (not sure of version) and Windows Vista. Please help! It is driving me nuts.
Thank you so much,
Amanda

ian.mstmI've been an IT Specialist for over 20 years... and I hate Google Instant with a passion. I've never used it and I don't want to use it... but there is NO way to turn it off even when the Preferences are set correctly. I'm using Win7 & IE 8. I'm going back to AltaVista until Google gets their act together.

IcarusPhoenixUnfortunately, Kelly, most of us are unable to turn it off; I myself am on Mac OSX Snow Leopard using Firefox, and Instant will not go away; if I click the small link beside the search box, it ignores me and continues working, and if I go into the preferences page to do it, it will say my preferences are saved, then keep on running anyway... and when I go back into preferences, it is back on. This happens whether or not I'm signed in, and it happens on four different browsers (Firefox, Camino, Safari, and Opera).
Seriously, this stupid thing is Facebook-level invasive.

OzgottHEy! This thread is two years old... and I still can't disable Instant Answer by simply disabling it in the settings. When I check the box "Never use Instant Answer" it still uses Instant Answer... Im not complaining or putting anyone down, it just that when I type in the search bar, it cant keep up with physical typing speed... which is incredibly annoying on a personal level. I used the fix mentioned above and made that URL my home page, which fixes the problem if I search from my Home Page, but not when Im gooling around from other sites.
