Search Google & send results from your keyboard
You can search Google and send search results right from your device's keyboard using Gboard.
With Gboard you can:
- Search and send anything from Google, such as nearby restaurants, videos, and weather forecasts.
- Search and send GIFs and emojis.
- Type faster by sliding your finger from letter to letter with Glide Typing.
Download & set up Gboard
- Gboard works on iPhones and iPads with iOS 9 and up
- Languages available: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Portuguese
- On your device, download Gboard from the App Store.
- Open Gboard
.
- Tap Get started.
- Tap Add New Keyboard.
- Tap Gboard.
- Tap Gboard again.
- Next to "Allow Full Access," tap the switch. The switch should be green.
Note: Full access lets you use Google Search in your keyboard. Your searches are sent to Google, but nothing else you type is.
To have Gboard show up whenever you type:
- On your iPhone, go to Settings

Keyboards.
- At the top right, tap Edit.
- Next to Gboard, touch and hold Reorder
. Then drag the icon to the top of the keyboards.
- Tap Done.
You can switch to another keyboard any time. Just touch and hold Next keyboard .
Open Gboard
- Open an app, tap the message field.
- The keyboard will appear.
- If Gboard isn't your main keyboard, touch and hold Next keyboard
.
- Other available keyboards will appear.
- Tap Gboard.
Use Gboard
- To search Google or GIFs, connect to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
- You can't use your voice to search Google or send messages with Gboard.
With Gboard, you can search as you normally do on Google for things like a flight number or videos. Then, you can share your search results.
- While in an app, open Gboard.
- Tap Google
.
- In the search bar, start typing.
- Tap an instant result or finish typing, then tap Search.
- You'll see search result cards.
- Tap the card you want to share. A title and link to the page will appear in the message field.
- To add an image of the card, tap the message field, then tap Paste.
- Tap Send.
Search for an image
- Follow steps 1–4 above.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Image
.
- Tap the image you want to share.
- Tap the message field, then tap Paste.
- Tap Send.
Send an emoji
- Open Gboard.
- Tap Emoji index
.
- Tap one or more emojis you want.
- To search for emojis:
- Type in the "Search emojis" field, then tap Search.
- Or below the emojis, tap an emoji category.
- Tap Send.
Send a GIF
- Open Gboard.
- Tap Emoji index
.
- Tap GIF.
- To search for GIFs:
- Type in the "Search GIFs" field, then tap Search.
- Or below the GIF field, tap a GIF category (the gray text).
- Tap the GIF you want.
- Tap the message field, then tap Paste.
- Tap Send.
With Gboard, you can quickly spell out words by sliding your finger from letter to letter.
- Open Gboard.
- Slide your finger across the letters of the word you want, then lift your finger.
- A word will be entered in the message field. You don't need to tap the space bar between words.
- To edit a word, type the changes or choose a suggestion below the message field.
- When you're finished, tap Send.
Troubleshoot
I see "null — Gboard" messageTo fix the issue, remove Gboard from your keyboard list, then add it back.
- On your iPhone, open the Settings app
General
Keyboard
Keyboards.
- At the top right, tap Edit.
- Next to Gboard, tap Remove
Delete
Done.
- Tap Add New Keyboard
Gboard.
If these steps don’t work, try restarting your phone.
If Gboard automatically switches to another keyboard, touch and hold Next keyboard . Then, tap Gboard.
To reduce this issue, make Gboard your default keyboard.
To add Gboard back to your keyboard list:
- On your iPhone, open the Settings app

Privacy & search history
We know what you type on your phone is personal, so we've designed Gboard to keep your private info private.
What Gboard sends to Google
- Your searches are sent to Google's web servers to give you search results.
- Usage statistics are sent to let us know which features are used most often and to help us understand problems.
- If you use Gboard's microphone, voice input will be sent to Google for transcription.
What Gboard doesn't send to Google
- Anything you type other than your searches or voice inputs, like passwords or chats with friends, isn't sent. Saved words on your device aren’t sent. You can delete saved words any time.
When you delete your Gboard search history, your past searches you won't show up as search predictions.
Delete search history from Gboard
If you downloaded the Gboard app:
- Open the Gboard app

- Tap Search settings

Delete search history from Google app & account
If you downloaded Gboard as part of the Google app, your past searches are saved to your device and might also be saved to your Google Account.
Step 1: Delete from device
- Open the Google app
.
- At the top left, tap your profile image.
- In the settings menu, tap Gboard

Step 2: Delete from account
When you’re signed in to the Google app and Web & App Activity is turned on, your searches might be saved to your Google Account in My Activity. Learn how to delete activity saved in My Activity.
To help you with spelling and to predict searches you might be interested in, Gboard saves the words you type. These words are saved only to your device. You can delete saved words whenever you want.
Delete saved words from Gboard
If you downloaded the Gboard app:
- Open the Gboard app

- Tap Keyboard settings

If you downloaded Gboard as part of the Google app:
- Open the Google app
.
- At the top left, tap your profile image.
- In the settings menu, tap Gboard

Remove Gboard
If you no longer want to use Gboard, here's how to remove it:
- On your device, go to Settings
