Customize what you find in Discover

You can choose the types of cards you want to get in Discover in the Google app or when you’re browsing the web on your phone. For example, you can find updates for your favorite TV show or sports team. 

Step 1: Turn on Web & App Activity

To customize Discover, turn on "Web & App Activity,” which saves your searches, browsing history, and other activity in your Google Account.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, visit the Activity controls page.
  2. Turn on Web & App Activity.

Step 2: Choose the types of cards you want to get

Delete topics you follow from your browser

  1. On your iPhone, go to google.com in your browser.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under “Discover,” tap Manage interests.
  4. Uncheck any topics you don’t want to see updates for.

Note: This feature may not be available in all languages and countries.

Follow new topics

When you search for an interest, you can follow it to get updates in Discover.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Google app Google .
    • You can also go to google.com on your iPhone in your browser. Note: This feature may not be available in all languages and countries.
  2. Search for an interest, like a TV show or a sports team.
  3. If you see a card with "Follow," tap Follow Add.

Step 3: Change how often you find topics in Discover

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Google app Google .
    • You can also go to google.com on your iPhone in your browser. Note: This feature may not be available in all languages and countries.
  2. At the bottom right of the card you like, tap Control Control.
  3. Tap More More to find more cards for this topic.
    • If you don’t want to unfollow a topic, but you want to see less of it in Discover, tap Less Less.
Stop getting stories from certain topics or sources
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Google app Google or go to google.com in your browser.
  2. At the top right of the card, tap More Organize and then Not interested in [Topic] or Not interested in stories from [Source].

Note: This feature may not be available in all languages and countries.

Bring back a card you removed

In the Google app

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Google app Google .
  2. Tap More Moreand then Interests and then Hidden.
  3. Under "Sources," unhide the source you want to bring back.

In your browser

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to google.com on your browser. 
  2. Tap Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under "Discover," tap Manage interests and then Hidden
  4. Under "Sources," unhide the source you want to bring back.
Bring back topics you removed

In the Google app

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Google app Google .
  2. Tap More Moreand then Interests and then Hidden.
  3. Under "Topics," unhide the topic you want to bring back.

In your browser

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to google.com on your browser. 
  2. Tap Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under "Discover," tap Manage interests and then Hidden
  4. Under "Topics," unhide the topic you want to bring back.

Change which ads you get

You can’t stop getting all ads, but you can change which ads you get. You can recognize these cards by the word “Ad.” To stop getting ads from a certain advertiser:

  1. At the top right of an ad from that advertiser, tap More Organize and then Why am I seeing this ad?
  2. Turn off Show ads from [advertiser].

To change which ads you get, go to Ads Settings. Discover can personalize which ads you get based on some of your Google settings and activities. To find and adjust past activity saved to your Google Account, go to My Activity.

Control video autoplay

Videos in Discover could start playing automatically without sound. You can turn these video previews on or off, and change when they play. Learn how to change your Google app settings or change your Google Search browser settings.
