Manage your Search profile

Manage your online presence on Google Search and Discover with your Search profile. This profile showcases your content and connects you with your audience. In this article, you’ll learn how to update your information and review your content’s performance.

Find your Search profile

You can access your Search profile from various entry points:

Direct URL: Go to profile.google.com/account.

In Google app:

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google app.
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial and then Your profile.

In Google Search:

  1. On your computer or mobile device, go to google.com.
  2. Search for your name.
    • Check the listed results for your Search profile.
  3. Next to your profile, click More More and then View Search profile.
    • Or, under "Latest Posts,” click View Search profile.

In Google Discover:

  1. On your mobile device, open Google Discover.
  2. Find the content you've created.
  3. Above the content, tap the header.
    • This header shows your name or profile icon. It takes you to your Search profile.

Tip: Your Search profile links to your individual Google Account. If you manage multiple profiles, you can switch between Google Accounts. This lets you access and find different profiles.

Edit profile fields

Important: All content changes are subject to Google's community guidelines for user-generated content on Search and Discover.

You can edit your Search profile fields to keep your information current. There are 2 types of editable fields:

  • Suggestion fields: Changes to fields like your "Name” or "About” require Google's review and approval. While a change is pending, a pending icon appears next to the field. If changes aren't approved, the icon disappears.
  • Editable fields: Changes to fields like content platform order are immediately reflected when saved.
  1. Go to your Search profile.
  2. Click Edit profile.
    • This button is typically found near your profile picture or name.

Suggest name & bio changes

Important: Changes to your Name or About require review by Google.

  1. Go to your Search profile.
    • Refer to "Find your Search profile."
  2. Click Edit profile.
  3. To suggest a change to your name, click the Name field.
  4. Enter your desired new name.
    • A pending icon appears next to your name. This indicates it's under review.
  5. To suggest a change to your "About (Bio),” click the About or Bio field.
  6. Enter your desired new bio.
    • A pending icon appears next to your bio. This indicates it's under review.
  7. To finalize your suggestions, click Save or Submit.

Manage content platforms

Important: To add new linked content platforms, you need approval from Google.

You can request to add content platforms linked to your profile. Requests to add a new platform are reviewed before they're applied. If you reorder or remove platforms, changes appear immediately. If you add or remove a content platform, the content that appears on your profile changes.

  1. Go to your Search profile.
  2. Click Edit profile.

To add a content platform:

  1. In the content platforms section, find "Add platform,” "Add link,” or a "plus” icon.
  2. Paste the URL of your content platform.
    • For example, a YouTube channel or blog.
  3. Click Add.

To remove a content platform:

  1. Find the platform you want to remove.
  2. Next to the platform, click or Remove.

To reorder content platforms:

  1. To move the platform:
    • On your computer: Drag the platform.
    • On your mobile device: Press and hold, then drag.

    Changes appear instantly.

  2. To apply your changes, click or tap Save.

Change profile images

You can update your profile picture and your cover image.

  1. Go to your Search profile.
  2. Click Edit profile.

To change your profile picture:

  1. Click your Profile picture and then Upload new picture.
    • Or, choose from existing options.
  2. Crop or adjust the image as needed.

To remove your profile picture:

  • Click your Profile picture and then Remove picture.

To change your cover image:

  1. Click the cover image area and then Upload new image.
    • Or, choose from existing options.
  2. Crop or adjust the image as needed.

To remove your cover image:

  1. Click the cover image area and then Remove image.
  2. To apply your changes, click Save.

Add a cover image

  1. Go to your Search profile.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. At the top right, tap Edit image.
  4. To upload a photo, you can select:
    • Camera: You can take a photo or upload an image.
    • Photos & videos: You can select the image that you want.
  5. Tap Continue.

Pin content

To highlight specific posts or videos, you can pin up to 8 content posts. You can find this content at the top of your profile.

  1. Go to your Search profile.
  2. Click Edit profile.
  3. To add featured posts, browse your content listed on your profile.
  4. For the content you want to pin, find a Pin icon .
  5. Select it as a featured post.
  6. To remove featured posts, find the pinned post you want to unpin.
    • Pinned posts are typically marked with a Pin icon .
  7. Click the Pin icon again.
    • Or, click Unpin or Remove from featured.
  8. To confirm your changes, click Save.

Get Search content analytics

The "Insights” section provides valuable data on how your content performs on Google Search and Discover. It helps you understand your audience and content effectiveness.

  1. Go to your Search profile.
  2. Find a button labeled "Insights.”
  3. Click Insights.
    • Within the "Insights” dashboard, you can find:
      • Top-performing content: Your posts or videos with the most engagement.
      • Total clicks: The number of times you click on your content.
      • Total Impressions: How often your content was displayed.
      • Audience reach by country: Information about where your content is most viewed and clicked.
  4. To customize the data view, use available filters like date range.

The “Insights” section is currently in Beta and only available for users that meet a particular minimum follower requirement on a single linked content platform. The Insights feature is powered by Search Console and generates a Search Console property for your profile.

FAQs

How can I add new content to my profile?

Content on Search profiles is automatically pulled from any linked content platforms. To add new content platforms, you can edit your profile. Learn how to manage content platforms.

Does content sync automatically when a platform is linked?

Yes, content from any new linked content platform is automatically added to your profile. New content from linked social accounts can take 24–48 hours to appear. This timeframe can vary based on Google's indexing schedules and the platform's API. Only content from linked content platforms, not web links, appears on your profile.

How do I change my name, social links & bio?

You can suggest changes to your name and bio, and request to link new content platform accounts. These changes require Google's review and approval. Removed or reordered content platforms appear immediately. Learn how to edit profile fields.

Are name or bio changes immediately searchable?

No. Changes to your "Name” and "About” fields are suggestions and require Google's review and approval. While a change is pending, a pending icon appears next to the field. If changes aren't approved, the icon disappears.

Will profile changes affect my ranking in Search results?

Changes made to your Search profile doesn't affect content ranking in Google Search or Discover. If someone follows you from your Search profile, they may see more of your content on Discover.

Where can I find data on how my content performs?

In the “Insights” section of your Search profile, you can find performance data for the content like:

  • Top-performing content
  • Total clicks
  • Total Impressions
  • Audience reach by country

Can anyone else find my performance data?

Performance data in the Insights section is only visible to the Google account that claimed the profile.

How can I filter my performance data?

You can filter insights by date range, Google surfaces, like Google Search, Discover feed, or your social accounts. By default, we provide aggregated analytics for all linked social profiles, which show content performance on the Discover feed and Google Search.

Will my edits be moderated?

Yes, your edits will go through automated and manual checks to ensure that they comply with the Community Guidelines. Edits that don’t pass moderation remain private. If your edit is flagged, you’re notified via email, with a link to the product for more details. You can also find a list of flagged violations through a pop up on the profile edit screen.

One of the linked content platforms in my profile isn't my account. How can I change it?

You can remove any linked content platforms. Learn how to remove a content platform.

How many posts can I feature?

You can feature a maximum of 8 posts from the past 365 days. At this time, older posts and certain other posts may not be accepted. We're still working on improvements for future releases.

Why can’t I find a post that I want to feature from the latest post feed?

You can only feature posts from the latest posts feed that displays your latest 100 posts from the last 365 days.

How many web links can I add?

You can add a maximum of 8 web links. A URL link is mandatory, though a title is optional. Only web links, like http, https, are currently accepted.

What are the image size and format requirements for photos?

Profile picture: For a clear image, a resolution of 256 x 256 px or higher is recommended. It’ll be cropped to a square 1:1 image in the app.

Cover image: For a clear image, a resolution of 1080 x 1350 px or higher is recommended. It’ll be cropped to a square 1:1 image in the app.

Can I upload photos or videos directly to my Search profile?

No. Your Search profile is designed to aggregate your presence from across the web, not to host new content directly. You can’t upload posts natively to Search profile. You can pin and feature content that has been posted to your linked social media accounts.

My knowledge panel contains inaccurate information about me. How do I fix it?

If you recently claimed and updated information on your Search profile, it may take a few days for your knowledge panel to update.

If the information is still incorrect, share your feedback. On your knowledge panel, click More More and then Send Feedback.
