Donate your Visual Search History Images to help improve Google

If you opted to save images you search with Visual Search History, you may donate them to Google. Only images saved to Visual Search History while donation is enabled are part of this program. When Visual Search History Donation is enabled, trained human reviewers at Google may review the images saved to your Visual Search History to build and improve Google products, services, and machine learning technologies.

Tip: Visual Search History Donation is off by default.

Turn Visual Search History Donation on or off

Visual Search History Donation is a device-specific setting. Google only reviews images saved to Visual Search History from devices opted into donation. If 2 devices are signed into the same account, and only one opts-in to donation, images you search for on both devices are saved to Visual Search History.

To donate images, Visual Search History must first be turned on. Manage your Visual Search History in your Web & App Activity.

You can change the Visual History Donation setting at any time.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, go to the Google app Google Search.
  2. In the search bar, tap Google Lens .
  3. At the top right, tap More and then Donate your Visual Search History.
  4. Turn Visual Search History Donation on or off.

When Visual Search History Donation is off, new content saved to your Visual Search History won't be eligible for this program. Content that was previously donated and that has been disassociated from your account may be retained for up to 4 years and analyzed by human reviewers to build and improve Google products, services, and machine learning technology.

Learn how to find or delete images in your Visual Search History here.

Check if an image has been donated

  1. Visit myactivity.google.com.
  2. Find the query image you want to check.
  3. If the image was donated, you'll find "Donated to Google" in the subtitle.

How donated images are used

Donated images are used by Google to build and improve products, services, and machine learning technologies. Upon being donated, these images are disassociated from your Google account and may be retained for up to 4 years for these purposes.

While your content will not be associated with your Google account when used for these purposes, we still ask that you only share content that you are comfortable having a reviewer see, and that you not share anything sensitive or confidential.
