On your mobile device, you can manage your Google Podcasts settings, like:
- Auto download new episodes or remove old ones from your subscriptions.
- Get or stop subscription notifications.
- Get or stop personalized podcast recommendations.
- Autoplay an episode after your current episode is over.
- Choose a light or dark theme.
Auto download episodes from your subscriptions
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts
.
- At the bottom, tap Home
.
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial
Podcast settings.
- Under “Downloads,” tap Auto downloading.
- Turn on Auto download new episodes.
- Under “Your subscriptions,” turn on podcasts you want to auto download.
Change when downloads are removed
By default, Google Podcasts removes downloaded episodes:
- 24 hours after you finish them.
- 30 days after you download them.
To change these settings:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts
.
- At the bottom, tap Home
.
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial
Podcast settings.
- Tap Remove completed episodes and choose a time period.
- Tap Remove unfinished episodes and choose a time period.
Manage notifications for your subscriptions
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts
.
- At the bottom, tap Home
.
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial
Podcast settings.
- Under “Notifications,” tap New episodes from your subscriptions.
- Next to each subscription, turn notifications on or off.
Turn personalized recommendations on or off
When you’re signed in to your Google Account, Google might recommend podcasts based on:
- Your Google Podcasts history.
- If you have Web & App Activity turned on, your activity across Google products.
To turn personalized recommendations on or off:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts
.
- At the bottom, tap Home
.
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial
Podcast settings.
- Under “Explore,” turn Show personalized recommendations on or off.
Play episodes continuously with Autoplay
Important: Google Podcasts only plays an episode once and won’t add an episode if you’ve already played it.
With Autoplay turned on:
- When you finish an episode, Google Podcasts plays the next episode from the same podcast location. For example, a show page, your downloads, or your “in progress” episodes.
- After you play all episodes from that location, your queue will play.
To turn on Autoplay:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts

- At the bottom, tap Home
.
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial
Podcast settings.
- Under “Playback,” turn on Autoplay.
