Manage your Google Podcasts settings

On your mobile device, you can manage your Google Podcasts settings, like:

  • Auto download new episodes or remove old ones from your subscriptions.
  • Get or stop subscription notifications.
  • Get or stop personalized podcast recommendations.
  • Autoplay an episode after your current episode is over.
  • Choose a light or dark theme.

Auto download episodes from your subscriptions

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under “Downloads,” tap Auto downloading.
  5. Turn on Auto download new episodes.
  6. Under “Your subscriptions,” turn on podcasts you want to auto download.

Change when downloads are removed

By default, Google Podcasts removes downloaded episodes:

  • 24 hours after you finish them.
  • 30 days after you download them.

To change these settings:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Podcasts app Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
    • For completed episodes, tap Remove completed episodes and choose a time period.
    • For unfinished episodes, tap Remove unfinished episodes and choose a time period.

Manage notifications for your subscriptions

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under “Notifications,” tap New episodes from your subscriptions.
  5. Next to each subscription, turn notifications on or off.
Turn personalized recommendations on or off

When you’re signed in to your Google Account, Google might recommend podcasts based on:

  • Your Google Podcasts history.
  • If you have Web & App Activity turned on, your activity across Google products.

To turn personalized recommendations on or off:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under “Explore,” turn Show personalized recommendations on or off.

Use Light or Dark mode

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under “Appearance,” tap Theme and choose a theme.

Choose your preferred languages 

Important: Not all languages are available to select as a preferred language.

You can find and listen to podcasts in up to 2 languages. To choose your languages:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under "Personalization," tap Preferred language & region.
  5. Next to your preferred languages, check the box.
  6. At the bottom, tap Save languages.
Show playback controls on your lock screen 

To show playback controls on your device’s lock screen, you must turn on notifications and Audio Playback for the Google app.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google app .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Settings and then Notifications and then Notifications.
  3. Turn on All Google notifications.
  4. Turn on Audio Playback.
