Verifying new URL for Shopify
0
I have an existing Shopify store that was all set up and running with Google Ads. We're doing some significant rebranding and have purchased a new URL for our new brand. I'm trying to go through the verification process for the new URL, but I keep getting "Verification unsuccessful." I'm sure I copied and pasted the code correctly for my theme.liquid. It's been about 20 hours since I added the code. I have heard others have waited up to 24 hours for verification. Should I just keep waiting? How long should I wait until I know it's an error (rather than a time issue). If it is an error, how do I resolve this?

HI

For Shopify you need to follow their guide.

Ask there if you need help with this.

Thanks.

Assuming there is no caching on shopify side (such that theme edits dont apply right away) it should work pretty quickly.

What is your domain? We can look to see if we can see the verification code in the source!

I followed the Shopify directions and pasted the code into theme.liquid. Still says Verification unsuccessful 21 hours later.

My domain is sullyandrye.com.

Thank you both for your reply!

Hmm, well do see a verfication tag in that homepage, so see no reason it wouldn't work.

Just checking, but that seems to have https:// non-www as canonical, is that the URL-Prefix using for the Property in the console?

Barryhunter, the second part of your reply went way over my head. Is this non-www as canonical something I need to look into further? Not meaning to take too much of your time, I'm still under mentorship for my Shopify store so I'm pretty consistently on the edge of knowing enough to get me by, but not enough to converse fluently about this stuff.

Just saying a URL-Prefix property for https://sullyandrye.com/ should definitely work. (and now has!)

But if the Property is something else http://sullyandrye.com/ OR http://www.sullyandrye.com/ something else like that, it might not work. Should, but be less reliable.

Canonicals in general shouldnt have to worry about as imagine shopify set rel=canonical tags, and there do seem to be http redirects in place.
... as long as using the right property :)
