Different between property with 'www' and without 0 Recommended Answers 3 Replies 0 Upvotes

Hi!

Checking my Google Search Console, I see that I have 2 properties, one with the 'www' tag and one without, ie 'https://www.example.com' and 'https://example.com' and they show wildly differing stats between them.
Are these two properties considered the same sites in Google's eyes or different sites?
Will I have to submit a sitemap for both these properties or will one sitemap for one property be enough for both these properties to have a sitemap?

Thank you for taking the time to look into my question! ^^

Ideally you would want only one version indexed. It doesn't matter which and use a 301 redirect from the one you don't want to the one you do.

This way all the stats would be consolidated into a single dashboard and search engines wouldn't encounter more than one version on a page.

Hello!

How would i go about redirecting the accesses of the URL to the other URL?

Thank you!

It depends on your system. You'll want to check with your host on the options. If you're on Apache you can use htaccess and you can find a lot of guides to do it by searching for "force www" or "redirect to www"
