Google has changed the way the search results show (today, Jan.15th 2020)
3
This evening, Google apparently did some type of "update" and now I, as a home computer user (not mobile) have borked up looking search results..
Apparently it is "Mobile First Indexing"..showing me (on a home desktop computer) results in mobile search (like, on a smart phone)..not regular non-mobile search.
How can I go back to what it was earlier today (and has been)...as this is NOT desktop friendly.

Thank you

Would you post a screenshot Natalie, so we can take a look at it?

Thanks,

Same issue here, looks like Google rolled out a massive change to the search layout and it's terrible, total hot garbage and not helpful for a computer user that needs information and not advertising and other garbage showing up as the results.

1. They removed the URL link! This is terrible for the user, it's the most important thing in the search, unreal it's been removed.
2. Removed all notifications that something is an AD. Before it was a green box that said the word "AD" and now it's all gone, what is real or being peddled on you is no longer an option for you to know.
3. There are now way less results per page, they increased the amount of spacing, removed text and added in more pictures so you get probably 1/3 reduction in real information.
4. Those tiny little images are stupid, every link now has it's brand image that even on my 17" MBP can't be identified other then a tiny blob of color of something.
5. Less accurate information in each search result. Every link has less relevant information showing then before, 1.5 sentences before it's cutoff but the information is just a random type sentence and not really helpful synopsis of what the link is.

These changes are atrocious and in now way do they benefit the user in any way. I don't want a mobile viewing experience on my laptop, I need access to the real internet, with real results and information to work. I'm so upset, this isn't about a visual change to the browser, these are core fundamental changes to how the internet is used for information, and Google is acting as the gatekeeper, limiting information to peddle advertising and other garbage for profit while socially re-engineering us.

These changes are shameful.

Google constantly targets random users with experimental variations to the Search and Image Search interfaces. Sometimes the differences are barely noticeable. Other variations are much more noticeable.

You're probably seeing one of these experiments. You could try clearing cache and cookies but, if that doesn't help, there's nothing you can do but wait until Google thinks you've had enough and releases you from the experiment!

As this is a user-to-user community, there's nothing we can do about this. I encourage you to send your feedback directly to Google using the "Send Feedback" link at the bottom of the results page.

I agree with Natalie.  It is awful and I want it to go back the way it was.

Google sucks to begin with. Just use a different search engine. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Bing, for example.
