Google still seems to be ranking paid links and pure spam. Why?
My answer and the general consensus was, the paid links report only helps training data and dodgy worthless just sites selling links will remain indexed. However, the outbound links won’t be counted in ranking factors.
Since I was provided this answer, over the past almost two months I have been testing this explanation.
Let’s take this junk site for instance, it has a massive amount on inbound link spam, smashed with hidden Google redirect notices, fake bot traffic, it’s meant to be a “News” website but with no news, every single article is thin pointless content hosting exact match anchor text used in paid links
timebusinessnews .com
There are literally thousands of sites out there like this train wreak, operated prominently by Indian nationals.
So the test, well, placed some totally worthless AI content right out of chatgpt with totally random incorrect and thin information along with an exact match anchor text. The result in an isolated test? A two position SERP increase within 4 days ( no other links were built in this time or within 2 weeks of the test.
I then used chatgpt and asked it to rewrite the super crappy blog post I made and then used it on two other very well known paid links blogs producing garbage. The result - SERP increases were also observed again in these isolated tests
Each site was also submitted to the Google paid links report demonstrating several paid links URLs for this ( training data) thing.
Conclusion, I’m not seeing what I was told Google would do in regards to ignoring paid links on obvious paid links sites and PBNs.
I was also told Google has bigger fish to fry than just looking at paid links ect ect. And this I can totally understand. However, being basically the number 1 ranking factor outside on-site optimisations this problem is not regarded as a big fish?
Not to mention the index is filling up with trash fast. Now, with AI here, spam bloggers can rank junk.
As long as you slap in keywords, fake facts or news,
a percentage and date in the first two lines of the content and description, it’s gunna rank. Content without these types of data points are also seeing links counted
To see what’s been happening here, when I take the time to report paid links and pure spam, I’m basically doing nothing more than “working as a human bot for Google” and providing it training data.
I’d kinda like to see some results for data I freely spend my time to give to Google. Could the paid links report be nothing more than just a deterrent along with all the huge warnings found in Googles guidelines?
Could this be a green light for me to save my own business and myself my financial ruin by using my site to sell links (in a non spammy and responsible way) and reclaim my losses?
Could more than half of websites and blogs in the future be used for nothing more than crappy text and paid links?
Maybe website links will become the new crypto currency?
I don’t know the answer to all the above questions, but I must say, im a little disappointed.
Yeah, there are thousands to millions of sites and PBNs used for nothing more to sell links. Maybe Google could consider at least creating a list from this assumed training data and start deindexing the major ones? I mean, the links are still obviously being counted and if the algorithms can’t work that out then best to just deindex the sites until to algorithms can be improved.
After all, apart from data and good information, the “real word” wants Authenticity.
Can we expect to see any major improvements in 2024 ?
