Favicon does not show up in google search results

Hi, my favicon does not come up in google search results (even though I can see it on my browser tab). Instead, I see Squarespace's standard square favicon in google search results. I followed the guidelines and have a 48x48 ico file and requested crawling again but I still cannot see it. Squarespace does not store favicon images on the same domain (instead it redirects to a different page) so this might be the problem but other Squarespace websites do not seem to have the same favicon issue, which makes me think that there is another problem here. Can you please help?

Hello BE,

Guidelines
You must follow these guidelines to be eligible for a favicon next to your search results. Note that a favicon isn't guaranteed in search results even if all guidelines are met.
  • Both the favicon file and the home page must be crawlable by Google (that is, they cannot be blocked to Google).
  • Your favicon should be a visual representation of your website's brand, in order to help users quickly identify your site when they scan through search results.
  • Your favicon should be a multiple of 48px square, for example: 48x48px, 96x96px, 144x144px and so on. SVG files, of course, do not have a specific size. Any valid favicon format is supported. Google will rescale your image to 16x16px for use in search results, so make sure that it looks good at that resolution. Note: do not provide a 16x16px favicon.
  • The favicon URL should be stable (don’t change the URL frequently).
  • Google will not show any favicon that it deems inappropriate, including pornography or hate symbols (for example, swastikas). If this type of imagery is discovered within a favicon, Google will replace it with a default icon.
Thank You

Thanks. I already followed these guidelines so I think for some reason, I am in the "favicon isn't guaranteed in search results even if all guidelines are met" category. Do you know why this might be the case and is there anything I can do to solve this problem as it looks very unprofessional to have the standard favicon in the google search results? Thanks again!

Hi,

Did you find any resolution BE? I am in the same situation (Squarespace website). Here is my site billhutchensfilms.com. You see the favicon in the browser when on the site, but in search results, it shows the same generic grey Squarespace icon. My icon is a simple square with Bill Hutchens Films on it, so I can't think of any reason that would be rejected.
