Does Local 3 Pack Ranking give priority to poorly performing franchises of larger chains 1 Recommended Answer 3 Replies 0 Upvotes
In an effort to improve the ranking of a website that I have built I have found a method by which a large Physiotherapy chain is able to saturate the top 'Local Pack' positions with individual practitioners within that business (who have poor or zero google rankings).
The site I have developed is for a business with 26 x 5 star ratings. The business is currently ranking 9th behind an individual Physio who's website domain already appears twice on the Pack above her entry. She has no reviews what so ever but her Domain Strength is inherited from the domain her page hangs off.
A second franchise on that domain has 3 x 3.5 stars and also ranks ahead of my site.
Yet a third franchise in the same local pack has only 3 stars. It also ranks ahead of my site based once again on the legitimacy inherited from the chain.
Google I am sorry but this makes no sense. Here are 3 businesses with a sum total of 6 reviews (half of which are of average rating) out ranking a highly performing local business which is facing hard times.
I understand your Local Pack ranking algorithm is no simple thing but it is favoring larger poor performing franchises of large chains over better performing small businesses.

Have you created a FREE Google My Business account and provided all information you can provide?
Are the stars you mentioned Google user reviews or stars from another source? Ask actual happy clients to review you on Google. Twenty-six 5-star ratings is pretty rare in the real world.
Rankings are based more on device, location, distance, prominence, relevance and review quality than domain.
Google wants to return results of businesses people will like.

Yes I do have a Google My Business Account and have submitted the same question to Google 3 or 4 weeks ago. I received a form reply which seemed unrelated to the questions raised.
Yes the 26 five star reviews are all Google reviews. The business is operated by 2 motivated, highly skilled physio's who are struggling to make things work.
The situation is indeed unfair to say the least.
Four of the top 7 positions in the Local Pack are owned by the one business that is using 2 different domains.
The first Domain holds position 1 (23 x 5 star reviews) and position 5.
The second Domain holds position 2 (3 x 5 star reviews) and position 7 (no reviews).
The business that I represent is 9th. Strangely it ranks 4th in the organic listing. It is possibly 300 meters further from the centriod of the suburb so this other business does have a proximity advantage if this is what the algorithm is emphasizing.
