Hi,

I have changed my domain from https://wyzchef.com to https://wyzchef.sg I have both these domains verified as domain property in search console. In wyzhef.com domain property, I am trying to use the change of address option. I am getting the error "Couldn’t fetch the page http://wyzchef.com" under the Redirect 301 section.
My domain DNS is managed by Wordpress and currently, wyzchef.com redirect to wyzchef.sg. Also, in the error, I can see the domain Google is trying to access is http and not https.
Kindly suggest what can i do to change this address in search console.

I am also experiencing the same issue with the Change of Address tool saying "Couldn’t fetch the page" under the Redirect 301 section. I have a 301 redirect setup for the old domain so it should be redirecting to the new domain.

Anyone found the answer somewhere else?

Not sure if it is related, but the http site redirects to the https site and then to the new domain. It would be better if it directly redirected to the new domain.

Do you have http, https, www and non-www sites verified for both domains?

I am not getting the request for http://motohunt.app - it's probably that Chrome redirects it itself to its secure version because .app domains can only be hosted behind secure connections. So I can't control that...

However, I did discover that I was issuing 308s instead of 301s. That was causing the original error. I manage to activate the "change address" action.

Yes the tool is not working properly.

I have been experiencing this from last couple of weeks. 301 and migration is properly setup, i checked with other tools 301 is ok, and i am redirecting http version and google is trying to access the same version so there is no problem regarding the http or https.

However, i found a temporary solution, it might help you guys too. after 301, i did fetch as google for old domain and then google was able to understand that the domain is 301 to a new domain.

Now when i search for my old domain, i can see my new domain in serp below the old domain at second position.

I'm having the same problem from http://perthsites.com/ to https://www.perthsites.com.au/ although strangely http://www.perthsites.com/ to https://www.perthsites.com.au/ worked fine. Seems to be a common problem and not one Google is concerned about.

Hi there,
I had the same problem of not recognizing the 301 redirect I have in .htaccess on the old domain.

I managed to overcome it by temporary removing the Google Analytics code on the new domain pages.

If you want, once the change of address process has started, you can return it back - if you are going to use same GA code (to continue analytics reports from the old domain address). If not, you can generate new GA code in the GA console - admin->account->properties "Tracking info" settings.

If someone interested in 2020:

I have exactly the same problem. My solution was simple: I removed property (old domain, from which I wanted redirect), then added in again and problem gone right away.

I had the same problem - easy to fix, do as Suraj Soni recommends and fetch the main page of the domain by entering its address to the search box at the top, then from the next screen click "Request indexing".

What worked for me: I was getting the same "couldn't fetch page" error for the homepage of the old property. As Dima recommended a few comments above, I removed the old domain property and added it again. After that, the change of address worked.

(Side note, I added the old property as a Domain property instead of URL prefix property. I don't know whether that changes anything, but it's worth noting.)

I think I found the solution. I deleted it and added it again using the URL prefix option on the right and side and included the https://www etc and that worked then.

I was at this for days!!! Hope it helps somebody. As a note- they don't make you reverify the domain a second time so you are safe to try this lots until it works.

I'm experiencing a similar issue. I've moved https://victoriatheatre.com to https://www.daytonlive.org and receiving error 301-redirect from homepage Couldn't fetch the page. The 301 redirect to daytonlive homepage is working as expected. Please provide any additional information to help get this issue resolved.

Hi, i'm facing the same problem. But i managed to solve it by the following steps as below:

Go to your Google Console.

1. Select your old property domain. Eg. OldDomain.com.
2. Click "URL Inspection" menu. (Refer snap
3. Type your old domain URL in the inspection address bar. Eg. https://olddomain.com then click ENTER.
4. After google inspection result appears (indicates URL is on Google), then Click "REQUEST INDEXING". This is to request google re-index again the OldDomain.com after 301 redirection setup.
5. Then, Finish.

Next, go to your google console, "Settings" >> "Change of Address" again and proceed the change address process again. Then, the validation should be ok after that and you can proceed the process successful until you get the "This site is currently moving" page.

You may get different result or may got it right, because I just did my try and error troubleshooting. :D
Hope this helps.
