Has Google returned to length of only 512px for title tag in SERPS unnoticedly? 3 Recommended Answers 8 Replies 2 Upvotes

Hi,
many of you may know it: The length of the title tag shown in SERPS is max. 600px, it's not dependant on number of characters. Every expert knows this and every online tool checks the 600px.

But, surprise surprise, most of my title tags, which are 500 to 580px, are truncated! All online tools give me "green", but they are actually truncated. Checking the SERPS with other keywords and title tags it confirms me that Google only shows about 520px at best.

Has G returned unnoticedly to 512px of former times? Look at https://websiteadvantage.com.au/Title-Length-Google-Search-Results
Or maybe Google has increased the font size?

Martin

Hi,
focusing on a particular character limit, will not always work. Just think about the user experience. Test the results on several devices to see how much is it visible.

Mobile may be a different issue, but it is useful and necessary to have at least any vague mark, any kind of orientation, how long you can create your title tags.
Imagine you would not know anything at all: everything between 200 and 600 px is possible. How long would you make your title tags? Every vague number of pixels is better than having no hint at all.

@Bonny Baby:
I'm not talking of character limits, which indeed is a bad idea.

Yes I know, I have no guarantee that G shows my titles as I created them. They change them due to the search query and this certainly makes sense.

Again, I don't want to match the maximum length, I just like to know what the maximum length is, so that I can make my own decisions how to move within this mark.

I can deal with whatever Google determine as a its prefered length, but in order to deal with it, I'd like to know what "it" is. it's hard to follow a rule which is not clear. That's all.

For example it would help and probably would not interfere with Googles intentions to say for example (just an example!): From now, the maximum is 512px, but notice, this is just the general rule, we allow us to make exceptions and we may change the 512px in future again. Everybody could deal with this statement, I guess and it would help to know it.

Obviously the font size has been increased and it's just a test as I was told in another forum:

Did you read my last post?
I know there is not the one definitive binding length and I haven't claimed this. Where did I say there should be only one definitive binding length? Nowhere. Character length? I have never mentioned this. Different game mobile? Yes I confirmed it.

The general maximum length on desktop in pixel as it has been known recently as "600px".

But as I mentioned by linking obviously it's just a test at the moment and noone knows more as Google hasn't given any official statement. If the present length remains others will test the new length in pixels.
More transparency would be appreciated and make things easier.

Nevertheless, thanks for your efforts.

Hey Martin,

Did you find out what's the ideal pixel for desktop and mobile? I'm seeing exactly the same things that you mentioned in your post. Almost all the online tools show the preferred title tag pixel limit as 580px while the search results for the title tag in Google results are truncated way before that. They are truncated at around 420px on desktop, didn't check on mobile. So, just curious if you have find the preferred pixel limits yet.

Thanks!
