Issue With Manual Penalty Not Appearing

I've read the FAQs and searched the help center.

Hi guys,

An issue I'm having with my website in Google Webmasters is that I received a site message stating that the website had a penalty put onto it, however in the manual actions section there are no manual penalties reported. Despite this, my positions did decline once the penalty was messaged about and have not returned, so my worry is there is a penalty on the site which I'm unable to have reconsidered.

Can someone please assist me with this problem so I can work on getting the penalty revoked from the website?

Thank you

Hi Barry,

It may sounds a silly question, but have you registered and looked at the same domain in GWT?

It may be possible that you got a penalisation for the www domain, but you verified the non-www one. These are treated in a different way from GWT.

Hope this helps.

Hi Andrea,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I have the correct domain registered, so not that simple I'm afraid.

Thanks

I can't personally assist you any more, as I don't have access to your panel (but it wouldn't make any difference).

Perhaps some TC can try to solicit the WTA attention and see whether they can assist you.

Hi Andrea,

I understand, you've tried to help me which I completely appreciate. Hopefully I can get some assistance, as I couldn't find anything on here with the same issue.

Have you checked both www and no-www versions of WMT data? You need to verify both and check both.

The site is indexed so it's not under a massive penalty, and in fact I believe that Manual Action Viewer is definitive, but if you have a highly-correlated traffic change then I'm prepared to accept this may be wrong.

Which penalty message did you get?

Hi Ben,

this is the first thing I asked the user to do ... no joy unfortunately.

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your response. The penalty I've got is "Unnatural Inbound Links", which I received in June.

Since that message, any rankings I did have disappeared pretty quickly and haven't returned, which has me under the impression I do still have a penalty even though it's not reported in the manual action area.

Thank you

Hello BarryPot

In WMTools then,  you are not  seeing anything like this?

I received a site message stating that the website had a penalty...
however in the manual actions section there are no manual penalties reported.

Can you post the message including the date? You posted here on Dec 6. What date did you notice traffic drop?

ETA

Okay just saw this:

The penalty I've got is "Unnatural Inbound Links", which I received in June.

What action did you take in the interim?

Current data shows links removed, But one domain (g2design labs) still has a sitewide dofollow (paid?) link to this site.

So is the main issue the drop in traffic or the reporting in WMTools?

Thanks @traveler

I did wonder about the part you put in orange. It's always been available before following a response though but, as you, say things have changed recently. The important thing is I have sorted the links so the link profile is clean, hopefully that will be enough.
