View sitemap errors

If you're having problems submitting a Sitemap, make sure that the URLs in your Sitemap include the URL of your site exactly as it appears in your Webmaster Tools account. For example, if you have added the site http://www.example.com to Webmaster Tools, don't list URLs in this format: http://example.com/home.html. Instead, use http://www.example.com/home.html.

Sitemap errors

The Sitemap Details page lists any errors Google found with your Sitemap, as well as warnings about potentially problematic issues. See details about the most common Sitemap errors.

View the Sitemap Details page:

  1. Sign into Webmaster Tools with your Google Account.
  2. On the Webmaster Tools home page, click the site you want.
  3. On the left-hand menu, click Crawl, and then click Sitemaps.
  4. In the Sitemaps list, click the Sitemap you want.

Once you've reviewed your Sitemap and made any changes, save it and then resubmit it. It can take some time for Google to process the resubmitted Sitemap, so the warning status may continue to display until then.

Before you resubmit your Sitemap, you can test it to see if Google can access and parse it correctly. On the Sitemap Details page, click the Test Sitemap button. Sitemaps take some time to process, so testing a Sitemap in this way may not reveal all errors, and you should always check back later to see if Google could parse your file correctly.
